Flying when pregnant

Hi all! I am 5+4 with my first pregnancy... Considering I am not originally from UK and haven't seen my family for over a year I have few trips planned for this summer. I managed to move my first flight few days after my first 12weeks scan, which I hope will give me some reassurance.

I would love to hear from people if they think taking multiple flight (all no longer that 4hours flights) could possibly hurt the baby. I will of course ask GP and professionals beforehand.

Thank you so much!

Very unlikely to be a problem if you have a complication free pregnancy. Try to get up and walk about on your flights and avoid flights after 36wk for singletons, 32wk for twins. If you have any complications that make you high risk check with your midwife or consultant if they think you are safe to travel or not.

You'll be fine, I flew at 6 months. Was uncomfortable but made sure baggy clothes on to be comfy and got some compression socks, try walk about as much as you can

I travelled to London to NYC when I was nearly 7 months pregnant. It was fine, flight home was several hours delayed and the waiting around the airport was the worst. We had to turn back and do an emergency landing at Heathrow on the way out as well (aircon wasn't working and the pilot didn't fancy crossing the Atlantic not knowing why, nothing dramatic), so it was a very long flight out, but I don't remember being particularly uncomfortable.

It’s been a while, but in my last pregnancy I flew a fair bit until quite late. Was told to wear compression socks. And also you need signed approval to fly after a certain point. Don’t leave that at the check in desk like I did once - luckily the lovely staff sent it across to the boarding gate for me so I didn’t end up back home minus all my maternity paperwork. But yeah, flying while pregnant shouldn’t be any problem if you follow all the medical advice. Enjoy your trips!

Thank you all so much :) I will look into compression socks. Hope the 12 weeks scan goes well so I can fly and tell family in person and not over Zoom!!
