Cyclizine

Hey everyone,
I’m looking from opinions on taking Cyclizine. I started yesterday and took my second dose at 4am this morning since I couldn’t sleep.
It is making me so sleeeepy. Will this wear off as I get used to it? I’m back at work next week so I’m not sure I can cope with being this sleepy.
I think it has had a positive effect on sickness. It’s the first time I haven’t been sick in over a week this morning although still feeling a bit nauseous.
Also wondering about the 3 doses? Can these be spread out evenly through the time I’m awake e.g 6/7 hours apart? Or do they have to be 8 hours apart and evenly spread over 24 hours?
I’m wondering if 2 a day might do the trick seen as I’ve taken 2 so far and already seen a positive effect? Did anyone take 2 x a day and this work for them?

Thanks in advance.

Hiya, I felt the same as you when I started taking cyclizine, it knocked me out and I felt like a zombie. But after a few days of taking it regularly that wore off completely. I’ve been on it for weeks now and have no side effects.

I also have mainly only taken it twice a day, 8 hours apart. I think the first few days I did take the 3 doses but that’s because I was so unwell that I was waking up frequently in the night anyway. But twice a day has still massively reduced my sickness and nausea.

Hope this helps!

I found it made me feel a bit out of it. I’d take a whole tablet if I were going to bed or staying at home but if I were at work I’d only take half a tablet. This still took the edge off the sickness but I wasn’t so sleepy. I didn’t take them methodically throughout the day, only as and when I felt I needed them.

The drowsiness did subside after a few days. I think you get used to it.

Very helpful! Thanks so much. Hopefully I've got this week to finish getting used to them and I can drive safely without falling asleep next week.

I found that after a few days the drowsiness also subsided. I took mine spaced out equally at the same time every day. I also found it helped to set an alarm an hour before I woke up to take my first and then I’d go back to sleep, it helped prevent the early morning dash to the bathroom and meant it kicked in enough for me to stomach breakfast too!

I was told 8 hours apart by every doctor I saw each time I was admitted for HG - the drowsiness definitely wore off for me after a few days. I always set an early morning alarm to take my first for the day so I wasn't waking up to horrendous nausea first thing. It seemed to take the edge off!

I’m currently taking it. At first it knocked me out but you get used to it. I’m also on promethezine and have felt able to drop my afternoon cyclizine so take one first thing and when I go to bed. Am having the most weirdest dreams!

Thanks :)

I think one in the am and one in the afternoon might be ok for now so I'll try that.
Setting an alarm is a really good idea! It worked well taking it early this morning and mornings are the worst! They're when I've been the most ill so I could really do with it already being in my system by then.

I've had to sleep it off this afternoon so I'm really hoping the drowsiness wears off in the next couple of days. Today is the best I have felt in a while so I'm hoping I don't have to stop taking them for work!

Thanks everyone :)

I just wanted to add a few comments because I've been on Cyclizine for about 6 weeks now and it's working really well.

The drowsiness was difficult in the start, but it did wear off. I have to take my 3 tablets at the exact same time every day or else I'm sick again. I set an alarm for my first at 7am, then take the next at 1pm and the last at 6pm.

It did take about 3 weeks for me to fully feel better and for the side effects to stop. But I found sticking with the timings and being consistent has helped massively. Good luck!

When I was admitted for HG I was put onto cyclizine (and metoclopramide and ondansetron) and told that the absolute minimum time between doses was 7.5 hours for cyclizine as it's quite strong. Like others the drowsiness did wear off after a while.
