Still no period 4 months after miscarriage :(

Hey,

I had a miscarriage in Dec last year at about 10wks pregnant, was diagnosed as a mmc and I then had an MVA (manual vacuum aspiration) which all went fine and I've since had negative pregnancy tests.

I'm just now getting a bit concerned that I still haven't had a period after the miscarriage. I have always had a regular cycle, and so what is strange is that I can feel each month ovulation pains and then 2 weeks later I get really bad period pains, but no bleeding! and then 2 weeks later again I get the ovulation pains, like clockwork! It's just a bit odd that there is no actual flow, like nothing at all.

Has anyone else had this? and did your periods just come back one month? I'd really like this chapter closed now but feel like I can't move on not knowing what's going on down there :(

Thanks x

Thank you @stardust1994 , I’m definitely going to push for investigation. Good luck on Monday!

Hi @stardust1994 . I hope it went well yesterday!! I’m seeing Mr Lower next week so will let you know how it goes x

stardust1994 · 07/03/2023 11:49

Hi @Hopefulhoney6, it did thank you. It was confirmed I had Ashermans. My cervix was complexly scarred shut. Fortunately Dr Lower has been able to clear all the scarring so just got to hope it doesn’t return. Good luck! x

Hopefulhoney6 · 07/03/2023 15:37

I’m glad you got a resolution ❤️ Did BUPA pay for the procedure? They said they might not cover it all for me if I need it.

How quickly can you TTC after? I’m just getting my head around it in case I do have Ashermans. Good luck too x

stardust1994 · 07/03/2023 19:27

Hey! So it’s great that you’re with BUPA as I believe they’re the most generous.

I was with Aviva who literally didn’t pay a penny 😬

When you speak to BUPA make sure to says it’s for painful periods. Don’t mention miscarriage or fertility. I think they cover most but there’s always an excess of a few hundred.

In terms of TTC hopeful that I’ll be able to after my coil comes out and I finish the hormones in a months time but I’ll have a scan with Dr Lower mid cycle (6 weeks time) to see if any scarring has returned. If not I can ttc and if it has then I’ll have another hysteroscopy.

Hope that helps 😊

Hopefulhoney6 · 07/03/2023 21:12

Thanks so much, amazingly helpful 😊 So hopefully TTC again within a cycle.

Actually BUPA are amazing and cover miscarriage surgery and issues. So they are covering all my consultations, bloods, ultrasound etc because I told them complications from miscarriage and will cover some of the surgery if needed. They also paid me £100 for having my D&C on the NHS.

Best of luck with your recovery. X

stardust1994 · 08/03/2023 07:15

That’s amazing! To be honest I think when my current cover expires I’ll move to BUPA, even though they won’t cover me for this particular issue now because it’s “existing” I think they sound so much better.

And yeah hopefully TTC within a cycle but I think it really depends on how bad the situation is. My timeline was like:

  • First consultation on cycle day 13: Dr L said I was close to ovulating and to take progesterone after I did for 12 days
  • Ovulated on day 18, took progesterone from days 20-32.
  • No bleeding whatsoever so I was booked into for a hysteroscopy approx. 12 days after I stopped the progesterone.

I would imagine you’ll probably be asked to do similar. He tends to only do hysteroscopies on days 6-12 of your cycle.

Thank you. Really really helpful for planning just in case! I’m also seeing him on CD13 and I tend to ovulate on CD18 so all useful. I had very light periods before the MMC so it could not be Ashermans (and this gives me the opportunity to ask about that too!) but just want to prepare :) and since MMC it’s nothing, rather than light.

I’m lucky as work pay for my BUPA and we get pretty good cover. I have always found them the best at different work places.

Ill let you know how it goes

stardust1994 · 14/03/2023 17:29

Hope your appointment goes well @Hopefulhoney6 :)

Hopefulhoney6 · 15/03/2023 15:07

Thanks so much for thinking of me @stardust1994 :) Confirmed Ashermans - he could see the scars on the screen, my lining was very thin and not there in places, but he could see my egg about to ovulate. So I’m booked straight into the surgery for a months time after Easter. I’m so glad to have had this thread to do my research etc and have someone go through it at a similar time. Let me know how you get on after the coil comes out etc. I’ll be a bit nervous for my first proper bleed but also excited to see it I think!

stardust1994 · 15/03/2023 15:12

Hey @Hopefulhoney6, sorry to hear you also have Ashermans. It sucks but Dr Lower is amazing so you’re in really safe hands 😊 I found the surgery absolutely fine and he said he managed to clear me completely of scarring.

The only thing I will say is that his operative report was pretty to the point. Which is helpful but also made for quite a depressing read. I cried 🤦‍♀️ Just prepare yourself for that.

Yes! My coil is coming out on 3rd April so I’m really hopeful I’ll get a good bleed and the scarring won’t return 🤞

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about my experience with Dr Lower, the surgery, the post op treatment etc.

Best of luck xxx

Hopefulhoney6 · 15/03/2023 20:32

Thank you so much!! I may well message you… I was a bit confused after how long I wait until I bleed again etc :)

Good luck with having your coil out. Amazing he got all the scarring xx

Hi. I know this is a super old post but wondering if the OP can tell me what happened? I am 11 weeks post MC at 6 weeks. Still waiting for a period and have had negative pregnancy tests.

It’s getting me down. xx

Hey! Both me and hopeful honey had severe Ashermans syndrome and needed surgery. We both paid privately and went with Dr Lower who is thought to be the best. Since then we’ve both gone on to have baby boys and I’m due my 2nd at the end of July. It might just be that your hormones are taking a while to rebalance but I’d recommend doing ovulation tests to see if you’re ovulating. If you’re ovulating but not getting a period then I’d try to get an appointment with an Ashermans syndrome specialist. You can go through your GP but it’s time consuming and you really need an expert and it’s complicated to fix. Hope you’re doing ok, it’s a horrible time after a miscarriage xxx

I’m glad you both got your babies in the end. I am not ovulating as I have been using sticks and never had a peak. I have a doctors appt next week xxx

stardust1994 · 06/06/2025 18:19

That’s good! A hormonal imbalance will be much easier to fix 😊 it just takes an annoyingly long time for things to get back to normal. Good luck x
