Hi

I had a 36 week wellbeing scan Wednesday due to midwife measuring baby 4 weeks bigger than I should, it turn out baby is transverse lie, I have another scan Wednesday to see if baby still laying in that position , I'm wondering if anyone has had a transverse baby and if the baby turned at all and if not what was your options and did they suggest you stay in hospital and how long did they take to do c sec if you chose to?

Thank u for your replies

Hi there, yes this happened to me at 37 weeks. Had to be admitted as apparently baby is at risk if you go in to labour and they are transverse so standard procedure for you to be admitted after 37 weeks. However, baby did turn on his own with a bit of positioning practice! He then stayed in the correct position, except for going back to back in Labour but that was a different story. Hope baby turns for you

Hi OP, I’m 34 weeks and having the same issue. It’s really worrying me as I don’t want to be admitted as I have two young children to look after. Has anyone recommend you have an ECV to try and turn the baby?

@Cloudyrainbows321 that’s great your baby turned! When did that happen? Did they turn naturally?

Hello! My baby boy was transverse up to me going in for a section at 39 weeks due to his position. I was scanned before they sent me to theatre and he had turned head down during the 38th week! I had been offered ECV but declined in favour of a CS but he decided to move himself! I was induced there and then when the CS was cancelled so he didn’t have a chance to flip back to transverse!
I wasn’t admitted to hospital though in those final weeks, I just had to be ready to call the hospital in case of early labour.

@Teakind yes he just moved naturally with me trying some positioning techniques. They didn’t want to do do an ECV because I also had an anterior placenta. Once they knew baby had turned, I went home for a couple of days then came back for induction as they said there was always a risk of baby turning back so best to get him safely arrived whilst head down. Check out the spinning babies website for some tips on positioning that can help. I was told that if baby didn’t turn, I’d have had to stay in hospital and they would’ve done a section on 39 weeks (didn’t want to do one before as you have to have steroids for an early section birth apparently. Good luck, you’ll be in safe hands whether baby turns or not, but hope you get the outcome you want

I had an ELCS booked anyway, but for the last month or so I knew the baby was transverse. I told the midwives, but they assured me baby was in the correct position. Knowing I was going in for a CS anyway, being incredibly comfortable in the third trimester compared with friends with baby engaged and not knowing what a PP was told about the danger if I did go into labour, I carried on as normal. Thankfully didn't go into labour and sure enough, baby was low transverse. She was just very comfy using my pelvis as a hammock!

@Cloudyrainbows321 thank you. That’s really encouraging. I’ll check out Spinning Babies now and will keep everything crossed!

Only had 1 transverse baby, she was the higher of twins though. Her sister was head down from 20wk then had turned breech at my 36wk check up so I had elcs.

In my first pregnancy my DC was transverse up until my 36 week app when they were found to be in the correct position. I imagine there is a high chance that the baby will turn before 37 weeks especially for PP who are only 34 weeks etc.

@Teakind noone has suggested anything to me as of yet but from what people have told me its quite painful to get them turned so I'm like oooh I duno should I just c sec and see what happens lol till Wednesday, I'm not sure if babys actually turned or not but movements seem to be the same as they have for past few weeks, I read the other day that if u live close to a hospital or have kids the hospital may make exceptions for and advise u that if ur waters break call 999.. you but at 34 weeks I wouldn't worry about that just yet baby may turn hopefully for you he/she do I think its 37 weeks and after they admit you as your more at risk of labour..

@FluffMagnet same as you I've had midwife appointments and had monitoring and they all said she was head down even said she was 4/5 relationship to brim yet I had a private scan at 31 weeks and she was in awkward position and i think she creeped up from that point as I kept saying to my mum n partner like I feel hard things poning out on the sides is thay normal and my sisters and everyone has asked me if I feel heavy pressure from her head engaging yet I was like nope lol ... I dont think shes even turned yet as movments still same like hard lumps poking out the sides lol the only uncomfortable I feel is when she pokes and stretches out other than that I think shes low and on my pelvis so I'm kinda comfy
Well turning in bed is kinda uncomfortable and awkward but I'm sure everyone gets that.. do u feel you baby moving against your hip?

@MeadowHay I think sjes still in same position at the moment but i dont really wanna be admitted to hospital if she is only going to turn lol but then i also want her to be safe its catch 22 lol
