Hello and congratulations! Are you hoping to breastfeed?

Troyhelena · 11/04/2021 15:11

Hi OP, when is the baby due?

Theswitch · 11/04/2021 15:16

If I was you I would get some 0-1 month clothes. Any ideas of estimated weight of baby?
I’d also get more newborn as even though DS was only in them for just over a week we got through more than 5 (probs 2 a day) & I was too sleep deprived to be doing loads of washing!

Cindy87 · 11/04/2021 15:17

I would say you need more newborn vests (short sleeve) and baby grows/sleepsuits. It's all they wear until they are a bit older and nappy explosions mean they sometimes need changing a few times a day. I would say 10-15 of each.

0-3 same but depends on the baby, my babies seem to stay in newborn size for ages then 0-3 size for about a week!

Cindy87 · 11/04/2021 15:18

Also more sleeping bags, again they can have nappy explosions in the night and if the spare is in the wash that'd be tricky. 3-4 should be fine.

otterbaby · 11/04/2021 15:20

I would personally get some more short-sleeved 0-3 month vests. You'll put those under sleepsuits and using long-sleeved ones under can a. overheat the baby and b. are a massive faff to get the sleeves straightened out under the sleepsuit!

Also - I only had about 6 of everything in newborn size and was fine, I just did a load of washing every other day. But my baby wasn't very sicky and didn't have many poo explosions.

Also - you can always nip out to tesco if you need anything quickly 🙂

lazylockdowner · 11/04/2021 15:20

Really depends on size of baby my kids ranged between 5lbs8oz and 6lbs3oz and all were very petite and needed early baby up to 5lbs fir the first month or so, then they moved into newborn, don't think any of mine went into 0-3 months until near on 3 months old

Bare in mind you could get through 2/3 vest/sleep suits a day so worth having just a multipack of the plain cheap white ones from the supermarket, you can always exchange for different size if need be

snowy0wl · 11/04/2021 15:23

Hi OP.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I just stuck with vests and babygrows for the first few months. Leggings and tights are very fiddly to get on and off and I could never get socks to stay on.

I think you need some more muslins (I got through lots every day).

If your baby is due in the Summer you will need a sunhat and Factor 50 suncream.

There are a few other recent threads on here with useful lists for first-time Mums.

Baby is due beginning of August, I know I’ve still got time but ideally would like to get as organised as I can now - we’re moving house next month and getting married in June (twice postponed wedding due to Covid!) also I’m a Teacher so school hols are really the only time I have any proper time to organise and plan what I need! Confused

@snowy0wl I'm sure the NHS and many brands don't recommend suncream usage on babies any younger than 6 months 🙂 definitely a sun hat though!

KoalaOok · 11/04/2021 15:30

More newborn stuff but keep it all in packets so you can sell if not needed if baby is big. More short sleeve vests for 0-3. You might not need all the bibs so again I'd keep them in packets until you need them.

Sunhat.
Towel.
You might want some jumper top things to go over the vests and leggings or a cardi but to be honest my baby lives in babygrows until about 7 months!

whattocallhim · 11/04/2021 15:31

If you plan on breastfeeding you need way more muslins, I had about 15 and some days that wasn't enough. You need more short sleeve vests definitely. Romper suits are really handy in warm weather too, almost halfway between a sleepsuit and a vest. Dont underestimate how many changes of clothes baby will get through, I changed dd 3 times in a row one night with sick up.

KoalaOok · 11/04/2021 15:31

If you have a tumble dryer you can get away with less but it's best to have too much than too little I think as it's a nightmare when you run out!

whattocallhim · 11/04/2021 15:34

You've not mentioned it here but if you're using a moses basket get a spare mattress and lots of spare sheets, so you can swap mattresses in the middle of the night and not be faffing about with changing sheets

TheMotherlode · 11/04/2021 15:38

I think that’s probably enough, maybe a few more newborn vests and sleepsuits, although it depends on the size of the baby (mine was straight into 0-3).
A definitely get loads more muslins.

Yummymummy2020 · 11/04/2021 15:48

The zip sleepsuits are the best thing ever I literally only want zip ones this time around (second baby) as it’s so lovely not having to figure out poppers during the night 😂😂😂😂

snowy0wl · 11/04/2021 16:05

@otterbaby - thank you for the correction. 🙂 My baby was born in the Winter a couple of years ago and I was surprised at how sensitive baby skin was to the Summer sun. But then a newborn will be more likely to want to lie in the shade of a pram. 😃

snowy0wl · 11/04/2021 16:06

... and a second vote for zipper sleepsuits. I was forever having to realign the poppers when dressing my newborn.
