Trying to conceive and vaccine

I had the AZ vaccine and did a negative test in the morning of the vaccine to check I wasn't pregnant. I have also been told I can't conceive without ivf. It was negative but then a week later my period still hadn't come and so I tested again and it was positive. Imagine my surprise! Unfortunately I had a chemical pregnancy. I had a fever with the vaccine and am now worrying that the fever may have caused me to miscarry. Of course the two could have no connection but I'm very sad and trying not to blame myself. Could this just be a cruel coincidence? I trust the vaccine but not the side effects caused by it. When I had the vaccine the pregnancy would only have just been a blastocyst, so technically still a bunch of cells. Would a fever impact a blastocyst? Any scientists out there know? It's driving me crazy! I can't believe the chances of this happening! Xx

Unfortunately OP I don’t think anyone on here can tell you. Even doctors and scientists don’t seem to fully understand the vaccine’s effects. I hope you find some answers though, maybe someone can come along and help. I’m sorry this happened to you Flowers

Unfortunately there has not been enough studies on the vaccines to give you an answer.

My last mc I had 8 days after getting a tick bite, the next day I had a scan which showed baby with a hb but then mc anyway. I blamed myself for planning the trip where I got bitten for ages but 5mth later got my bfp with current baby, now 21+2wk.
I think you have to put it down to coincidence and move on. Looking on the bright side you may be able to conceive naturally after all so keep everything crossed that you get a sticky one next time. Good luck

So sorry for your loss . I had 4 early miscarriages in a row, I think sometimes you look for a reason to help it make sense. when quite simply there isn't .... so you can't blame yourself, but do allow yourself to grieve

I also had a chemical Pregnancy around 3 weeks after the vaccine. Although given I've had 4 previous losses I'm not sure if it was that or just coincidence

Thank you all for your kind and sweet messages, starting to feel better 💕

@Goonbear I hope it would reassur you to hear that both the royal college of midwives and of Gynaecology say there is no need to wait to TTC after vaccine and they cant see any way it would affect a pregnancy. I know it's hard not to know the reason for a loss, I've been there! Most early/chemical miscarriages are caused by rabdom chance chromosomal atypicalities . I'm sorry for your loss x

Botanica · 10/04/2021 21:39

I think it's perfectly possible that the vaccine could cause early miscarriage but sadly there is not enough evidence to provide it one way or another.

Namenic · 10/04/2021 21:58

Please don’t beat yourself up about this.

Some pregnant women have had the vaccine (after talking to medical professionals) if the risk-balance to them and the baby is favourable towards having the vaccine - in certain situations covid could cause more harm to mother and baby than the vaccine.

Botanica · 11/04/2021 15:05

There's a thread about the vaccine affecting periods, and with the responses already on that thread, I'm prepared to believe it can indeed disrupt your hormones and therefore affect fertility and pregnancy.

saamantha19881 · 11/04/2021 15:47

Hello, I think either way you should inform astrazenica. If people don't let them know (even if it is a coincidence) then they won't be able to accurately build up enough data to prove if it is or isn't safe in pregnancy.

Namenic · 11/04/2021 16:13

If you are concerned, talk to your gp about it. They could help you process it, report it if appropriate and also advise on future conception or contact gynaecology specialists.
