Hello I am 16 weeks pregnant and have come back from my 16 check up to be told I am Rhesus negative. I am yet to find out my partners blood type but I am in the low 15% being negative I just wanted to ask other mothers experiences being rhesus negative with a positive baby and how straight forward the jab is. Smile

Thanks to @sleepyyy and @gamerchick who realised I wasn't in fact being snarky (for once in my life) but using shorthand for 'speaking honestly...'. rather than 'honestly Hmm'.

Anyway, good luck with it op. I'm sure it will go fine.

I am RH- this is my second pregnancy. This time around they took my blood at 16 weeks to test the baby’s blood type. As he is RH- as well, I don’t need the anti-D!

@crossstitchingnana

Me too! I have anti d and anti c antibodies in my blood as the injection didn't work. My second son was born 39 weeks by c section, jaundiced and anaemic. Spent a week under the blue lights, borderline for a blood transfusion but we just got away with it. 9 months of iron/folic acid and he is happy hyper 6 year old with no long term problems.

I've never met anyone else for whom the injection didn't work!

OP the injection is fine, and it's not a issue for your first anyway but if by any chance it does fail it is OK, and easily treatable.

I had it. I'm negative and my husband is positive. Our baby is negative so I didn't need another after the birth.
Injections don't bother me at all. I had it in my arm. I wasn't given a choice, but even if I had been I'd still have gone for the arm.
It didn't hurt at the time, but it is a deep tissue injection. My arm ached for about 3 days after. (That's another reason why in future id always go for the arm).

@Daisy111111 The injection is absolutely nothing at all to worry about 😊 over and done with in 2 seconds and lasting effects. I’m type B- so had anti-D late in pregnancy then they tested baby’s cord blood at birth and came and gave me another anti-D on the postnatal ward because baby is type B+ 😊
Shouldn’t cause any issues in your pregnancy at all but just keep in mind that if you happen to fall/have a sharp knock to bump/or experience any bleeding then you should phone the maternity unit as they may want you in for Anti-D. If I remember rightly, if Anti-D is needed in any of these events then it should be given within 72 hours 😊

@MM321

Thank you ☺️ that's really helpful and reassuring xxxx

MM321 · 10/04/2021 23:11

@Daisy111111 No problem at all 😊 hope you have a healthy pregnancy 😊

DamnYouAutoCatRectal · 10/04/2021 23:21

I never knew it was so unusual! My mum had anti d, as she is negative, so I have always been aware of it, as well as my own blood type.

My oldest sister was negative (very fortunately as she was born before anti d), middle positive (mum given anti d) and me negative (so would have been fine anyway).

All 3 of my DC are positive, so I've had all the injections, but in amongst all the other blood tests and general indignities of pregnancy, they're very quickly forgotten.

Keha · 10/04/2021 23:26

I am rhesus - and they did the blood test, baby is too so I didn't get the jab.

getyourfreakon · 10/04/2021 23:26

I'm rhesus neg A and after all the injections it turned out baby was too! Definitely worth it though and we have at least 3 generations on my side of the same blood type. Baby's father was positive. DD will likely have the same rigmarole when she's older.

MushroomQueen · 11/04/2021 01:56

I'm A- had a jab at 28 weeks with both kids as partner +. But both kids are O-, so I've avoided the 2nd jab so far

MushroomQueen · 19/04/2021 17:47

I'm A- 2 kids so far as others have said 28 weeks Jab. I don't even remember it tbh. And I hate needles. Luckily both my boys are O- dunno what this 3rd one will be think dad is o+. But don't worry

MushroomQueen · 19/06/2021 22:19

No issues here. I've had the jab at 28 weeks both times, easy peasy and I hate needles. I'm pregnant again almost 14 weeks and I'll be having it again. I didn't need another after either birth as both my babies were o- and I'm a-. You'll be fine

This just reminded me of a ridiculous conversation I had in hospital just after my DD was born (when I was near delirious and thought I was losing my mind!)

I am rh negative so had already had one anti-d, and after she was born they insisted on testing both of us to see if I would need another. No matter what I said, they couldn’t seem to understand that just testing her would give them the answer they needed. Maybe they were looking for something else in mine but didn’t want to say?!

The actual jabs were fine. They often offer it in your bum but you can just ask for it in your arm instead (which I did the second time round!) good luck!
