I’m 20 weeks with baby 2.

I had PGP/SPD with baby 1 but didn’t get awful until 34 weeks. This time it’s got earlier and I’m struggling. Nights are the worst. Constant turning because my hips are so painful, and everytime I roll I feel my pelvis go clunk. I’m miserable, and exhausted. I know physio is an option but tbh it was as useful as a chocolate teapot last time.

Any ideas on how to make sleep bearable? I have tried:

A new mattress topper
A long (generic) 12ft U pillow
Standard pillows
Rolled towel under bump
DS reflux wedge under bump
The belt thing with memory foam padding on either side of bump

I’m not keen on anything between knees/legs other than a duvet as anything thicker causes pain. Which sounds counter intuitive!

I could have written this myself! I've had PGP since about 12 weeks, I had it in my first pregnancy as well. I'm 34 weeks and for the last few days the pain at night has become horrendous. I suspect I also have sciatica as I get shooting pains radiating down my right side when I put weight on it.

Night times are the worst, I've been waking up every hour because of the aches and pains. I found that having a pillow between my legs doesn't help so I've been having to take paracetomal which offers slight relief but not alot. I'm going to try a hot water bottle tonight, see if that helps! Let's hope someone comments with some good advice otherwise it's going to be a long 6 weeks Confused

I’m 29 weeks and I could have written your post. I had it much later in my first pregnancy but I’ve had it since about 16 weeks this time!!

Check out the product at this link... www.active-physio.co.uk/store/p/mama-turn

From around 25 weeks I was having a lot of hip & pelvic pain at night & kept wakening myself with pain every time I turned, was also so stiff & sore every morning. Currently almost 33 weeks now & been using this for the last few weeks, it has really helped me, I’m getting a far better nights sleep with it & not nearly as much pain or stiffness in my hips or pelvis, would highly recommend. I had tried a wedge pillow & ordinary pillow between my legs before it but this has been by far the best solution for me.

I'm going through the same thing. I started getting the back and hip PGP at 14 weeks and its absolutely the bane of my life at 35 weeks.

I can't sleep without a thin pillow between the legs, bump wedge under bottom of bump, paracetamol and sometimes I need to step this up to cocodamol and shoving a hot water bottle in my pants to soothe my back. I still wake up multiple times a night, turning over is a nightmare and still get hip and back pain but it's better than the hourly waking and crying that I went through before.

I see an osteopath and try and walk most days and it's just crap. I hope the hot water bottle helps, it definitely helps with any back spasms or hip aching for me.

Only way I could get any sleep in the back end of my twin pregnancy was to sleep in a reclined sitting position with lots of pillows. I was still woken by pain after about an hour though so was exhausted all the time but still had to plod on. Fairing much better this time as I took up weightlifting a couple of years after their birth. Rebuilding strength and maintaining my lifting through this pregnancy has meant day to day pain is not that bad so far. Only 21+2wk though so I may eat my words later in the pregnancy lol.

Osteopath or chiropractor with experience of pgp.

Nhs physio was useless for me during first pregnancy (they just gave me crutches at 24/25 weeks). Osteopath kept me off crutches for my second pregnancy.

Check out the pelvic partnership website. They have lots of info and a list of recommended practitioners who practice manual therapy.

This!

Also, sleep with a pillow between your legs, it's really important to keep your hips and pelvis aligned.

If you're on Facebook, there's a Pelvic Partnership support group, you could search/ask on there for advice too. I've seen various things recommended to help you turn in bed (might be the same product PPs mentioned).
