Can gender scan be wrong?

Had my 20 week scan today.
Was going to not find out but DH really wanted to know, so we did.
Currently have 3 DS and was hoping for a girl this time.
Found out its a boy and have to say I am slightly disappointed. Having said that, I'm glad I know so that I won't have any disappointment at the birth, but just be grateful to have my little boy.
So out of curiosity- no other reason- has your scan ever been wrong? Anyone been told girl and had a boy?
Or vice versa?

@Ava50x

Not me personally but I know of people. However I think the chances of being wrong are quite low and I also think you're slightly more likely to have a boy if you already have 3 .

That being said it's ok to be disappointed, you can't help it! I'm sure you'll love your little boy and when he's here you won't want anything else Thanks

They can get it wrong if the positioning is not perfect.

Scan predictions have been right for all ours so far. Expecting our 5th girl, we do have 1 boy too. Dh couldn't hide his disappointment and says he want's to try again in the hopes of getting another boy, alright for him to say when I do most of the work.

DH is a Dr who is in on a lot of C-sections. In several years it’s happened a couple of times that he’s witnessed. Although all of them were expecting girls and got boys.

Apparently it’s more common that way round as bad angles/positions can hide a Willy. If they see a willy at the scan it’s less likely to be wrong.

My advice is to ask at any and every opportunity.
I’m currently expecting DD and had a private gender scan, 20 week scan confirmation and cheekily asked again at a 28 week growth scan. I suspect if DS was anything to go by it won’t be my last growth scan...I shall be asking again to confirm gender whilst they’re down there!

Thanks all.

I really am quite OK with the fact that baby is a boy, I had a good cry and actually feeling very happy about it now! I think I just had to get the disappointment out of my system and now thinking how lovely it'll be to have a gang of boys!

@Chelyanne I know exactly what you mean- DH said "well there's always a next time" and i'm like- who said there'll be a next time? Nice of you to say when i'm the one struggling with the sicking and exhaustion!! Glad you have your 1 boy though.

@riromay thanks for the sympathy! Curious why having had 3 boys makes it more likely to have another boy- doesn't each baby have the same 50/50? (Yes I am super ignorant!!)

@InsanelyPregnantAndSore great advice. Will do if I get more growth scans- which i've had in the past with my others.

Bottom line is I'm delighted that baby seems to be healthy, honestly that is the most important thing. I had Covid when I was 6 weeks pregnant and honestly i'd been worried sick that baby would have some birth defects because of this. So i'm glad everything seems to be OK and I already am in love with my little boy!

Thanks everyone.
