40w5 today and last chance for baby to come out by herself this weekend. I am 2cm dilated and had 2 sweeps and next step is breaking my waters next week.

So interested to know how it went for you?
Did labour start soon after?
Did you need the drip?

How was the overall experience?

I've had 4 births, 3 of which were induction and 2 of those were induction by waters breaking.

DC3 was induced at 42wks, they broke my waters and she was born 2hrs later. my bishops score was very good with her.

DC4 was induced at 40wks due to size, and I guess that was early for me as they broke my waters and nothing happened. They then put me on the drip (which I had the epidural put in first) it took 2hrs to get my contractions to established labour and 4hrs from established labour to him being born. It wasn't a bad labour by any stretch but I had hoped for similar to DC3. My cervix wasn't as favourable at 40wks as it was at 42.

Should also have said dc1 came at 42wks(induced) and dc2 40+9(spontaneous after multiple sweeps) hence 40wks being "early"

Our 1st I had a full induction, 3 days then waters broken and drip born 7hr 38mins later (vontouse and 5 mins pushing).
2nd they broke my waters at 5cm after slow labour of 6 days from being 1cm, born 2hr 19mins later (15 mins unassisted pushing).
3rd they broke waters at 8cm, born 11 mins later (5 mins unassisted pushing). Midwife thought it'd take a lot longer and was out of the room when I started pushing.

Induced at term due to low papp a. Had a sweep when I was admitted and was 3-4cm had to wait for a bed on delivery to have waters broken. Went into labour naturally in that wait but the proceeded to rupture my waters anyway. Contractions went from breathable to unbearable in about 15 mins, they also were back to back so had the drip to regulate them. 7 hours later after 2 hours pushing baby was born via forceps in theatre as they had twisted too much on the way down I was never going to push them out alone. Not the best experience but we both were happy and healthy, discharged the next day.

I had my waters broken and I really regret it. It was my "last chance" to have a homebirth before I was taken to hospital but the amount of liquid I lost was insane and the contractions became unbearable so I had to go to hospital anyway and then ended up with an emergency section as turned out she was obstructed. I felt it was the moment I completely lost control of my labour.

Both of my births were inductions by breaking my waters.

DS1 was induced at 38 weeks, was already 2cm, broke waters nothing happened after 2 hours so was put on drip, finally arrived 13 hours after starting drip.

DS2 induced at 40+1 was 3cm dilated when waters were broken, contractions started pretty much as soon as they were broken, was left for 2 hours to progress, as the contractions were still coming on strong they left me for another 2 hours by which point my contractions had tailed off. Was checked and had only got to 4cm so was put on the drip but not before I got the epidural I insisted upon (wasn’t making the same mistake twice by not getting one first). Baby born 3 hours after starting drip, a lot better experience than first time around.

I didn't have to have my waters broken during induction as they broke spontaneously 12hrs after pessary inserted. I had no contractions leading up to this or in the 12 hours after rupture so went on the hormone drip with an epidural.

Had my waters broken both times for inductions at 39 weeks. The process was fine and didn't find it painful or anything. Went into labour straight away after they did it.

Truthfully, it was one of the more unpleasant parts of my induction. There were a few mitigating factors though.

First, I had been brought down to have my waters broken because the delivery suite was quiet. Not because my cervix was ready. I certainly wasn't 2cm anyway. Second, I was only 37 weeks and baby was still 'free'. This meant the membranes kept bobbing away from the midwife whenever she tried to rupture them. As I wasn't 2cm, she didn't have a lot of wiggle room either.

In the end, a second midwife had to come in to push down hard on my bump, while the first midwife did her thing. Very uncomfortable and unpleasant. Thank god for gas and air.

I didn't go into labour within 2 hours. In fact I had no contractions at all. So I went onto the drip. 11.5 hours of drip later I had a regular vaginal birth. Wasn't so bad. Not an experience I'd want to repeat for future births, but if I had to, I would.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories.
I see it's mostly not super pleasant but since i plan on having an epidural might ask for it before being on the drip if it needed.

Or a miracle will happen and this baby decided to come out before 😄
