Hi all,

Has anyone ever experience bad migraines in early pregnancy? I'm currently only 8 weeks pregnancy however the past 2 days I've have two really bad migraines where I have lost some site in my right eye (it has come back after a nap) and yesterday my right hand and right side of my mouth and lips when tingly and numb?

I have rang my docs and midwife and none of them are helping me... just keep passing me from pillar to post!!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you

There is a specific type of migraine that includes a visual aura (problem with sight) and paralysis/tingling of parts of the body, sometimes these symptoms can mirror those of a stroke - I suffered with these regularly in my teenage years and would include vomiting etc. I then grew out of them and believe it was hormonal.

In my first trimester I suffered my first migraine of this kind in about 10 years and ended up in A&E who said it was normal due to hormones and gave me anti-sickness tablets, strong painkillers and a drip for dehydration due to vomiting . Luckily I haven't had once since and now 20 weeks.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your response! This is what I thought it was like the symptoms of a stroke so it scared me! I'm off work today trying to rest, I feel better but made me panic as my step mum had a mini stroke when she was pregnancy with my brother!

I don’t have the paralysis but I have the aura and recently posted a thread asking for advice as I had them daily. I had to up my water intake considerably and adopt a few new ways to deal with them (mine are affected by screen use, so bought blue light glasses). I experienced mine at about 5/6 weeks for almost a week, but since then I haven’t had another one, it’s now moved to toothache however Hmm

In all, you have my sympathies! Try to drink plenty of water and it should pass. I found a cool eye mask particularly relieving when at their worst.

Yes I had several a week during the first trimester. As if the constant nausea wasn't enough to deal with! Sorry you're getting them. There isn't much they can do unfortunately, they are caused by the hormone fluctuations. I haven't had any since 13 weeks - hope it's the same for you too.

@lauren2018sf hey, I had some headaches pretty bad early on but have had a migraine for the past four days, it has been absolutely crippling, I am 28 weeks. The doc says it's common in pregnancy. Which doesn't help much :( told me to increase my water intake

Hi, I also suffered bad migraines during my first trimester, it was something I had never had before. My midwife also told me it was all hormone related but i did find lying in a darkened room and using the kool n soothe migraine gel sheets helped alot!

Forehead stick too! Only a temporary release but does work a little, I also steamed my face with Vicks x
