Good god someone calm me down.
I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes at 30 weeks I’m now 37 so my diet has had to change considerably, including snacking on more meat and cheese etc to help with hunger.

I’ve been eating The Aldi version of Pepperamis called Meatsters, attached pic. Which said ready to eat and assumed that going by the Perpparmi website they’d be okay to eat, I’ve since found out perhaps not.... as they’re classed as cured meats. (I know stupid of me!!! But I’ve been so concerned about not eating carbs and sugar, that some logics has gone out the window)
I’ve now worked myself up something incredible about toxoplasmosis and listeria and somehow I’ve affected my unborn baby.

I’m due for a c section in 2 weeks.

Please help, I’ve stressed myself considerably!!!
I feel absolutely fine other than being knackered, but I’m assuming that’s because well I’m the size of a house and growing a human haha

I'm veggie so haven't eaten them myself, but from what I've read of the fully branded version they seem to be pasteurised and therefore considered safe, so it seems likely the Aldi version is too? Regular deli meats e.g. salami slices are what people have generally been avoiding (although I think its an item lots of been happy to take a risk with anyway as the risks are low).

They look like they are a cooked product so nothing like cured meats that haven't been cooked. If they were cured meat they'd have to be kept in the fridge.

You are fine and you're not going to get listeria or toxoplasmosis from them

The uncooked meats thing is mainly in the US.
It isn't such a big deal in other countries.

As long as the pack says ready to eat... You're good to go

dementedpixie · 06/04/2021 10:28

If it was a cured meat like actual salami/pepperoni then you can eat it if cooked or if frozen for a few days beforehand.

But those meatsters don't look like actual pepperoni and don't need kept in the fridge so must be cooked or pasteurised already

I ate about 12,000 pepperamis in my first tri (couldn’t get enough of them!!!). I checked and they were definitely on the clear list. I also heard that most cured meats in supermarkets/mass produced are actually ok anyway as they are frozen in production which kills off the bacteria. I’m no expert and just passing on what I read, but for me this took away any concern from eating them.

I thought I’d gotten over the craving, haven’t had one for months but now you’ve reminded me it’s all I can think about. Might have to send hubby out to buy me some!!!

KMwills · 06/04/2021 14:23

Hahahah yes!!! They’re bloody lovely 😂 thank you that definitely helps. It does make complete sense I mean I understand the risk of a salami hanging in a butchers for months on end but surely in a sealed packet?! 🙄

Enjoy your Pepperamis girl!!
