mbt shoes and spd

I've got a relatively mild case of spd (not on crutches or using wheelchair) and i've been wearing mbt shoes almost constantly for the past two years. (I had a 2 month stint of not wearing them a year ago, and found it quite painful.) Wondering if any of you know whether the shoes would be contributing to the spd or if i were to change would make it worse?? MBT website says its not suitable to start wearing them in pregnancy, but if habituated then should be okay. Do any of you have personal experience of this? Thanks for reading!

Hey there. I don't wear mbt shoes but this question did crop up in an ante-natal class I was in recently. The advice was that mbt shoes create an "uneven" surface to walk on, so not good if you're getting SPD symtoms. The woman wearing them was pain-free so was going to carry on, but was advised to stop if she had any problems.

You could try normal shoes and taking it slow for a day or two and see?

I wear mbt shoes all the time but have no experience of spd. I could ask at my next appointment if you like, cos they're much more common here, or try actually phoning them up and asking specifically about spd. they're so technical I'd be surprised if they can't answer that for you

I had SPD controlled by an osteopath ( a very special man he is too)
he advised against me wearing while pregnant as the growing uterus tilts your pelvic balance and MBT's also change your balance and this can place strain on the pelvic girdle.
I have been left (7 mths postnatally) with a ruptured L 1-3 disc and trapped nerves in my legs
The MBT's are fabulous for relief of this now though

Thanks for the advice Wobbegong, Ernest and Piffle. I'm a little worried about trying normal shoes, as last time i did that whilst not pregnant my back seized up - my body must be pretty much habituated. I'll try MBT free next weekend when i'm not working - just in case. I'll give MBT a call also. Sorry to hear about your back and trapped nerves Piffle. I love wearing my shoes normally, and so glad that they're working for you. I think its time to visit the physio!

when you get mbts you're advised to build up time gradually, so perhaps you should do the opposite and not just stop waering them, but cut time and wean yourself off if you feel you shouldn't be wearing them
