Too much amniotic fluid?

Hello ladies,

At my last scan (35+4) it was noted that I had a lot of amniotic fluid. 22cm. From looking online, it seems that anything over 25cm can be more risky. Does anyone have any explanations as to why there is excess fluid or any previous experience with this? I'm back in for my next ante natal appointment on Tuesday so will hopefully find out more then anyway, just looking for something to ease my concern in the meantime!

I have polyhydramnios. Im currently at 28cm at 33 weeks.

Have you been offered a glucose tolerance test?

Theres apparently no reason for my fluid levels being high. My scans show a healthy looking baby.
My consultant said its most likely just one of those things that although they can't give me a reason, shouldn't be an issue.

Did they tell you what the deepest pocket measured?

I was told this then the week later was normal. Could be baby's position but mine was only very slightly higher

I've had polyhydramnios with 2 singletons and 1 of my twins. They put it down to big babies for me, no other causes as all tests came back normal. It didn't cause any problems during pregnancy or at birth, was like a waterfall once waters broken for VB's though.

Yeah so I had a glucose test around week 28 I think it was and didn't show anything. I havent had any test since.

I do have a high BMI at 38, so unsure if this is a factor.

The largest pocket of fluid was 6.2cm (I checked my maternity notes that they print out).

I dont have an exceptionally big bump, and actually only began to show physically since about week 29 or 30. I hadn't started to put on weight until a few weeks ago but that was because I was aware I was already carrying extra weight and was trying to be good with my food, which has since gone off track a bit due to a family bereavement.

I'm glad to hear it hasn't caused you ladies any issues. I did the worst thing possible - GOOGLED and had myself worried with all sorts!

I found out at a private 4d and wellbeing scan that my deepest pool is 9cm and normal is up to 8cm. My midwife and consultant don't seem to worried. I am currently 29 weeks and have a growth scan at 36 weeks and they may give me another scan before then but waiting to find out about it. I think they only really worry when the deepest pool is really big. As your deepest pool is within normal range I wouldn't worry too much ☺️

@bluebell211 please try not to worry. I had this with my first and he was born healthy, he was just a little chunk Smile
I had GD test and it was fine so they ruled that out and there was nothing of concern showing on the scan apart from a bit more fluid than usual. All it meant was that when my waters broke that the poor midwife got soaked so maybe just be prepared for that!

Thanks to you both! I'll let you know how I get on! At 37+3 today and thinking every slight twinge is going to be the onset of Labour! And I'm not ready! 🙈
