I have a history of intercranial hypertension (increased fluid around my brain) but never had any issues for years. in the last 24 hours I've have possibly the worst migraines ever. I'm crying I'm literally in agony. I've had paracetamol, I've had ice packs and heat packs, I've drank 3 full bottles of water (which with hyperemesis is quite a challenge but ive done it) I used to end up at hospital all the time with migraines and the staff at a&e would be so rude to me, 'because it's just a headache' and made me feel so rubbish so I really wanna avoid hospital if I can because they'll make me feel awful for wasting their time because it's what they do (a&e staff at my local hospital are constantly being complained about in the local press so not just my issue) I don't know what to do. I'm in so much pain and just feel like I can't cope. xxxx

Migraine is common in the first trimester but given your history I definitely think that you should get you're self checked out! Sorry you're feeling rough and in pain - hope you feel better soon!

How lovely to be given a new car. It's nice to treat your children, most people do what they can according to their income. Hopefully in turn our children will treat their children.

I am sure a new car would cure any migraine!!

Speak to your GP not your MW. My GP said he was happy I continued to take my prescription meds..

The only thing that helped me through that phase was IV paracetamol and my tens machine (on medical advice)

Since having my baby I have invested in a Ceflay, which is amazing and my consultant has said totally safe during pregnancy, although the instructions say otherwise.

Some migraine consultants advice taking triptans, but there is no definitive research into triptans during pregnancy.

*advise not advice.

My migraines seemed to be triggered by my first pregnancy and I still have them. I try not to take anything so the best thing for me has been to just go and lie in a dark room at the first sign of a migraine, usually before it gets too bad, but speak to a doctor if you need to.

I used to suffer with severe migraines almost weekly as a teenager. Visual aura, headache, paralysis, vomiting the whole lot - grew out of them as an adult however during my first trimester I had the worst migraine of my life and ended up in A&E. I felt silly going to A&E but was go glad I did as I needed fluids and was given anti-sickness medication and strong painkillers. Luckily I haven't had one since so I'm hoping it was a one off - from what I've been told they are quite common in the first trimester especially if you have a history of them.
