i had hyperemesis when i was pregnant with my first and was hospitalized i was so sick- it was very bad, i couldn't even walk i was so mal-nutritioned......anyway my second pregnancy was a doddle as i didn't let it get on top of me again!! i made sure i ate the minute i got out of bed and kept eating no matter what so if i did become ill i had enough reserves- it has made me now overweight but i'm working it off slowly so i'd rather be like this than have been ill for a second time like that!!

i know exactly what its like to not want to eat though- the first time i hadn't eaten for 4weeks solid when i was admitted to hospital, but i couldn't eat as i was throwing up all the time. maybe see if your GP will perscribe you some suposetries or something, if they see from your records you were ill last time they may want to prevent it happening a second time.....

when i found out i was expecting my second the gp told me if i was ill they'd sort it straight away to prevent illness again!!

I think my GP told me that being stressed can make it worse, BUT I was much worse with my second child (same as you with your first - sick up to the day she was born, lost over 2 stone, in hospital four times!)and I was in a much less stressful situation than I had been with my first! If you've got hyperemesis I don't think forcing yourself to eat will work - just eat what you can when you can, and if you're not holding down liquid see your GP who may send you to hospital to get rehydrated. You can have other medication prescribed but it doesn't always work - stemetil, that kind of thing. Can you get someone to help you with your daughter while you're not feeling well?

i am really bad with sickness and i am looking into acupuncture - anything to stop it

have had hyperemesis too and was hospitalised - my doctor lovely and sympathetic. Have you tried cyclizine? Bit scary taking tablets but anything worth it if you feel anything near as bad as i did. Drank Complan for calories and took rehydration sachets (from Boots) on the days i couldnt keep anything down. Pineapple has a funny enzyme in it which makes it stay down and not be vomitted up. Now at wk 24 and starting to stop vomitting but feel so drained from the past 5 months of hell. Take care xx

I had very bad morning sickness right up to my first birth (and on day of birth, having been told nil by mouth, this was scary dry retching that made me faint.) I am pregnant again now (only 6 weeks) and don't feel sick yet. BUT I remember reading the BBC pregnancy calendar last time and announcing to friends at 8 weeks that I had 'probably missed the morning sickness thing, it's supposed to start at 6 weeks, the BBC says'. I had a couple of better months, last time, round about 20 weeks, where I was only sick once or twice a day, but at 28 weeks it started again. I'm also stressed out at the idea of doing it all again. But this time I do have some techniques I learned from last time, eg eat last thing at night, something that isn't very carby, so I don't wake up with massively empty stomach.

Craved nuts and seeds which helped - then read somewhere that zinc and magnesium could help - which nuts and seeds are rich in - so took vitamin supplements and the whole world changed for the better...
