Excruciating back pain at 35 weeks - it's getting worse and worse

It started at around 20 weeks and now it's so bad that I cannot even stand up without hurting. I walked up the stairs and started shouting and screaming (very unlike me). I haven't told my midwife or anyone, well husband knows. Apparently it's my sciatic nerve.

This is my second child and I'm supposed to draw up my birth plan next week after my 36 week scan. I was 100% for having a VBAC, now having a wobble because how am I supposed to push out a baby if I cannot even stand up straight.

No point in posting really, just needed to share how I feel.

Tell your midwife! You could have physio or at the very least some painkillers

PragmaticWench · 04/04/2021 07:30

Sounds like you need to see a physio, can your midwife service refer you?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 04/04/2021 07:36

You need to tell someone op! Please don't suffer in silence Flowers have you tried a heat pack? I use those microwave ones when my back is bad and i have seen you can actually get some on like a belt so you can walk with it in place

Go and see a mctimoney practitioner. I don’t know why midwives don’t recommend it as standard. It’s a very gentle form of chiropractic and they are specifically trained for pregnancy pains. I saw one every few weeks when the pelvic pain started up and had a pain free pregnancy.

Why haven't you told your midwife?
She could've got you into physio a long time ago

@BadgertheBodger @PragmaticWench thanks, I booked a private physio/ osteopath for Tuesday.

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I got my husband to get one + make a hot water bottle which does help, thank you. I do have a belt but it gives little relief.

@LadyBillyBon love comments like yours, so helpful lol! Aren't we all a lot smarter after somethings happened than before...I didn't because it wasn't as bad and I just thought it's normal pregnancy issues such as shortness of breath.

Didn't personally find NHS physio very helpful, they just gave me a booklet in the post and told me to get on with it. The exercises weren't terrible, but bloody painful.

Seeing a private osteopath far trumped the NHS physio service, I was seen in person, given acupuncture and manipulation to ease my misalignment/muscle spasm.

Some find a physio belt helpful, I just find it crushes my bladder and digs in if i sit, which is basically 90% of what i do at the moment as I resemble a large beached Walrus.

Have a look at the pelvic partnership website too.
