MissisBee · 03/04/2021 10:10

Yes it is. It's completely normal standard milk. Was it in date and taste ok?

Midlifelady · 03/04/2021 10:13

Why wouldn't it be? I've heard of people being wary of unpasteurised milk, but not pasteurised.

Dhano21 · 03/04/2021 10:17

@MissisBee it's in date and tastes ok . i've read somewhere you shouldn't drink green top milk in pregnancy so just checking

MissisBee · 03/04/2021 10:19

Absolutely nothing wrong with green top milk. It's semi-skimmed. It's fine.

ScarfaceCwaw · 03/04/2021 10:23

What?

I really think you need to check the actual NHS advice list in pregnancy and stop listening to people who are telling you complete rubbish.

There are really very few foodstuffs that you need to have any concern about at all. And you can pretty much eat anything sold in a mainstream supermarket. The risks are miniscule in any case.

Postdatedpandemic · 03/04/2021 10:30

You should not drink raw milk while pregnant. Bulk standard supermarket milk is absolutely fine. The green lid just means it is semi skimmed.

Raw milk is quite hard to buy, is well labelled and generally expensive. Raw milk is sometimes referred to as green milk, just to try and confuse people.

tinselandlights · 03/04/2021 10:30

You've been given misinformation or have misunderstood if you think that.

All pasteurised milk is absolutely fine. Follow the NHS guidelines.

Zarinea · 03/04/2021 11:03

Read the NHS guide to food in pregnancy - there's actually very little to avoid.

Step away from the rest of the internet. You'll find stuff aimed at the US (where food hygiene standards are lower so rules are stricter), and some mad made up bollocks.

lamptastic · 03/04/2021 11:04

Stop reading things on the Internet.

These threads are getting worse....

Of course you can drink pasteurised milk... the pasteurisation process is exactly why you can drink it.

The "green top" element just means there is less fat present. Not sure why any website would advise against green top and not blue or red top milk....

Use a decent website, please. The NHS website is pretty reliable I hear.

lamptastic · 03/04/2021 11:05

I'm aware my post above is slightly contradictory... I'm also a bit cranky from ongoing poor sleep. 🤐

LadyBillyBon · 03/04/2021 11:32

These posts are ridiculous sometimes.

I've never seen anywhere for it to say green top milk is not safe 🤦🏻‍♀️

NHS website says dairy as long as pasteurised is fine.
That is literally in your title.
Come on people.

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 03/04/2021 11:41

OP I think you’re confused by the fact that unpasteurised “raw” milk straight from the cow and sold direct at the farm gate is sometimes referred to as “green top”. (As per picture).

You’re right that you shouldn’t be drinking that stuff when pregnant, but it has no relation to the plastic green caps on your Tesco milk, which just mean that it’s semi-skimmed. I promise you that any milk sold in Tesco will be absolutely fine for you to drink.

StillWeRise · 03/04/2021 11:47

it's actually very difficult to buy unpasteurised milk (which yes, used to have a green top on the bottle)- there's no chance of buying it by accident! relax OP.
FWIW I sometimes buy unpasteurised milk direct from the farm and it doesn't have a green top Grin

Dhano21 · 03/04/2021 12:00

Thank you all so much for answering my question. Your comments have put my mind at peace.

Glad you got this sorted OP. Just as a general point it sounds like you are quite anxious, so try to avoid lots of random social media info - it will just make things worse.

Dhano21 · 03/04/2021 13:31

@partyatthepalace i'm not sure who i can talk to about my anxiety.

i get really anxious

OP posts:
partyatthepalace · 03/04/2021 13:48

It’s very understandable - pregnancy is an anxious time and the world is an anxious place right now.

Make an appointment with your GP who can put you on the list for CBT. Also mention it to your HV/ midwife - there should be new mother services in your area. I know they are all online right now - but can you join some pregnancy and new mum groups? - it will help to know you aren’t online.

partyatthepalace · 03/04/2021 13:49

... alone not online!

But do reach out for help, it’s important to keep yourself well for you and the baby.

Where did you read this nonsense?

Pasteurised homogenous milk is just bog standard normal milk

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 03/04/2021 14:02

Read the thread dementedpixie. Green top milk is another term for unpasteurised milk. The OP appears to not be great at scientific terms and has got confused. It happens. We’ve reassured her.
