Have been reading the 'when did your waters break' thread and it got me thinking -

so... when did everyone start putting stuff underneath themselves to be on the safe side if waters broke then?

and what is the best thing to use???

asking cos we're moving house soon (hopefully) floors are fine as all stone or wood but have a lovely new memory foam matress waiting there for when we move in, would hate to gush all over it - is it true that it rots upholstery???

Dp hoping I'll gush all over our sofa as he wants an excuse to buy a new one

Am now just past 32 weeks and suddenly there seems to be sooo much to think about!

Someone told me to get some Pampers bed mats (which I have done) but not sure when to start using them. I guess from 37 weeks?

Buy a childrens flat matress protector, you'll need it eventually anyway!

bet your waters dont break in bed, but if you are worried there are plastic sheets that you can put down a bit like the kids ones you get when toilet training. I cant remember where they sell them but am sure if you google waters breaking in bed you should come up with them.

good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

We got one of these Jonelle mattress protectors. Cost a bit more than the tarpaulin but not at all like a crisp packet (). In fact it so didn't cause a problem it's still on the bed 7 months later - left it on to catch the early milk floods and haven't got round to taking it off...

I've got some similar to these Puppy pads under the sheet on the bed at the mo, although as I get closer I will put em on the sofa/ in the car etc.

My waters broke in bed. But they woke me up while doing so IYSWIM. Midwife said it was the change in pressure in my tummy. A pampers care sheet will fit the bill. Remember waters quite often break after labour starts! Or even have to be broken for you. Good luck!

If you are going to use anything, get something non-woven. Don't use a plastic sheet from the garden centre.

Bear in mind that the vast majority of membranes go during transition. Those that go before labour are still only a trickle, especially when gravity isn't on your side.
