the other day i was enjoying the sun outside (i didn't get too hot or dehydrated) but i didn't stay in the "shade" and now i've read something that it's really dangerous and the equivalent to sitting in a hot bath 🤯 is this true? Blush

No it's fine. Vitamin d is probably beneficial if anything.

dementedpixie · 01/04/2021 10:21

Unless you ended up with sunstroke you're fine. Remember to use suncream though

viques · 01/04/2021 10:21

Getting sunlight is important for absorbing vitamin d.

Hyppogriff · 01/04/2021 10:22

As long as you stay hydrated and don’t get too hot.

JellyBellySmith · 01/04/2021 10:38

Your skin is more sensitive in pregnancy, so as it gets sunnier, definitely invest in good suncream, but otherwise, as long as you don't feel you are getting overheated you'll be fine.

Rosieposy89 · 01/04/2021 11:25

It'll be fine! People in hot countries have healthy babies all the time

Fleetw00d · 01/04/2021 11:48

My mum sunbathed daily for 6 weeks during a heatwave when she was pregnant with me, I was born in August and it was a heatwave. Just make sure you keep hydrated and wear spf, basically like how you would non pregnant haha!

What do you think women do in Africa?

FeistySheep · 01/04/2021 12:04

No, it's great for you! Vitamin D is really important.

I usually tan reasonably well, but in pregnancy I burn. I don't know if others are the same, but I'd recommend being more careful than you usually are and shortening the exposure time until you work out whether your usual tolerance has changed at all. Then head for the shade/sunscreen :)

Chelyanne · 01/04/2021 12:05

So long as you feel cool enough and stay hydrated you're fine.

Wriggleout · 01/04/2021 12:26

It's fine. The Vit D is good for bones, for you and the baby. To be actively encouraged I think!
