Hi, I'm 25 and I've currently had one scan (13 week nuchal ) all has come back normal for that and low risk. How many scans do you have throughout pregnancy and what will I expect to find out at my next one? Also, I haven't really seen my midwife much , only once so was wondering when she will do birth plan and also if I will get to practice using the gas and air etc before hand ...

Hi there. I'm in Scotland and we get 2 scans - 12 weeks and 20 weeks - but have quite a few midwife antenatal appointments in between every couple of weeks.

You'll only get the dating and anomaly scan (around 20wk) if you have a complications free pregnancy. You will get more scans if the midwife has any concerns about growth rate or if you develop other complications.
Your birth plan will be discussed quite late on in pregnancy. You can put a rough guide together but do remains open to changes as births rarely go as you'd like.
They aren't really allowing people in to hospital for tours etc due to covid and so unlikely you'll get to try out G&A (trippy stuff lol). It's use is pretty straight forward anyway, one deep breath with each contractions is enough to take the edge off. Have too much and it can have you off your head, I was seeing monkeys in the room my 1st time.

On the midwife front there is a list of standard appointments on the NHS website. Some are doing less face to face and more telephone apps atm.
You should see/speak to someone around 16wk.

12 and 20 week scans are the normal. Some hospital trusts have added one in sometime after 30 weeks I believe but not many.

Birth plans aren't done normally until your 36 midwife appointment.

16 weeks is normally your next midwife appointment after your booking appointment.

20 weeks for scan. Which is a detailed scan to check all the physical developments of baby and usually you can find out the gender too.

Midwife appointments after that for a first time Mum are :25, 28, 31, 34, 36, 38 and 40 weeks.

Testing gas and air isn't really a thing. I've never heard of that tbh.

Also as a PP said, a lot of places aren't doing face to face midwife appointments until later on.
All mine were over the phone until 28 weeks

Yeah with G&A you literally just breathe and you can already do that I’m assuming since you’re alive and pregnant😂.

Have a read here: www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/your-pregnancy-care/your-antenatal-appointments/

It’s also available in your notes.

2 are the standard scans.
Unless they want to do growth scans.
I was 27 weeks when I went for gestational diabetes testing so ended up having more scans to check on his growth.

And midwifes appointments were very couple of weeks.
