Can a low risk combined test be wrong?

Hi
I am SO relieved to have had low risk results from my combined tests, I'm 40 with a BMI slightly over 30 so was expecting the worst:

DS 1 in 7169
Edwards/ Patau 1 in 10,000

NT was 1.4 but I don't have the blood results yet, I just got those results over the phone as my midwife is on hols.

I had an NIPT before the combined test but it was inconclusive and they can't retake it until 9th April as the foetal DNA was so low.

So, is it safe to relax and assume things are OK and the NIPT will confirm this? Or is is there a chance that the low risk combined test could be wrong and I'd still get a high risk NIPT?

I've tried googling and nothing comes up for this question :/ if anyone has an experience/ advice/ knowledge it would be appreciated

thank you x

Sounds like it's time to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Had my results back today too and am doing the same after a lot of stress! X

There’s always a chance that the low risk combined test is wrong as it’s purely a screening tool, even a NIPT doesn’t have a 100% detection rate as it’s still not a diagnostic test. But if both come back low risk then I definitely think you can relax🙂

@summerhillgang @JumperooSue

thanks both - I'm definitely feeling loads better after the low risk combined result but I guess like you said JumperooSue the combined is a screening tool whereas NIPT uses foetal DNA so at least it has better (still not total) accuracy....both low together is the dream.
I will stay happy & positive but keep that in mind.

Thank you xx
