Brown spotting 6/7 weeks, need some reassurance

Just looking for some reassurance really of anyone who has had spotting in pregnancy and not gone on to have a miscarriage. I know NHS and other information says it can be harmless but has anyone actually experienced this not turning into the worst?

I've had one successful pregnancy 3 years ago with no spotting and 2 subsequent miscarriages so for me spotting has always turned into a miscarriage.

I'm currently 6.5 weeks, had an early scan at 6 weeks which showed everything looking good and a heartbeat. The day after the scan I had a light pink small bleed (when wiping) and spotted brown for 2 days. It stopped for one day but now it's started again today brown mucus, spotting and when wiping. I have a scan at EPU tomorrow as my GP referred me but I suppose I'm just hoping for some reassurance in the meantime that it could still be ok.

I've had 5 pregnancies.
All had brown and pink spotting between 5 and 8 weeks.
Had a scan with 2 of them at EPU and doctor confirmed it was leftover blood from implantation along with the foetus burying deeper.

2 of my pregnancies ended in miscarriage however that was completely unrelated to the brown spotting. That had stopped weeks before.

Hi OP, sorry to hear about the spotting. As you say, it is really common and can all be fine, but as you've experienced it can also be something else. You've done the right thing by getting an appt tomorrow. But I get it's a long wait not knowing what's going on. I don't know whether you can take any comfort from the fact it's out of your control. Fingers crossed all ok for you.

Thank you @SnooperTrooper12345 that's reassuring. My previous two miscarriages quite quickly developed from spotting to heavy bleeding, within a day, so I'm really hoping the on and off nature of this spotting means it's different.

Thanks @FrancesFlute yes even though it's one day it's a painful wait to find out what's happening.

For me, spotting turned into a miscarriage. But I have seen lots of women on here say that they had bleeding and all was fine. It seems that it could go either way, I’m sorry for the worry you’re going through. Do you have any scans coming up? Xxx

I've had spotting that turned into a miscarriage and spotting in my subsequent pregnancy that turned into a completely healthy baby - so absolutely yes, it could still be ok.

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow x

Thanks @Cafeaulait27 and @moreshitandnofuckingredemption for your replies. Yes I know it could obviously be the start of a miscarriage as this is what happened the last two times, and obviously I won't know for sure until the scan.

I was just hoping to hear some experiences where there has been spotting and it's been ok.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - second time I had spotting at 6/7 weeks, I had a pregnancy that was otherwise completely fine, and a completely healthy baby.

So definitely - I have had spotting and it was ok x

I too, have had spotting that has ended in a MC and spotting that didn't (currently 34 weeks with a pregnancy that had brown spotting at 4 and 7 weeks).

My 7 week spotting was right after seeing baby with a heartbeat at the EPU and was scary but they reassured me and here I am so many months later- so far so good.

Fingers crossed for you OP Flowers

Hi OP, this may be a stupid question, but could the bleeding be due to the scan? I presume at 6 weeks it was an internal scan? In which case I think it could be very normal unsurprising that you might bleed afterwards. The cervix is super sensitive in pregnancy and often bleeds if irritated , or the scan may have dislodged some old blood left over from implantation. If it’s brown/ pink and you are not having heavy cramps I wouldn’t worry just yet x

I had spotting at 7 and 9 weeks, no visible cause on scans. Apparently it’s very very common. My LG is 18 months old x

Thanks for all your replies, I think logically I know it could be either way but as previous pregnancy have gone the bad way some reassurance was very helpful.

I had a scan this morning and everything was fine, still there will a heartbeat and there was no need for an internal scan. Whilst the doctor and nurse who scanned have said the internal scan last week is unlikely to have caused bleeding it does seem too coincidental to me and it think if sex can cause irritation surely the probe can too.

Anyway a good outcome so far so I'm keeping everything crossed and will try and relax about brown spotting for now. X

@lamby12 I have had 2 pregnancies and had spotting from 6/7 weeks till about 30 weeks, 2 healthy children aged 3 1/2 and 6 and currently 5 weeks with #3 🤞 made me very anxious in my first pregnancy so completely get how your feeling, dr used to say you will know if Mc as within a day that spotting will be heavy and at 6 weeks you would normally be in pain as well. Good luck with your pregnancy

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 31/03/2021 13:41

That's great news, keeping all crossed for you x
