Tearing and another pregnancy

Looking for some experiences, had a second degree tear that also went upwards, inwards and downwards (if that makes sense) as took a while to stitch up but recovery was fine.

Pregnant again and I was wondering how likely it is to happen again and if they would push me down any induction or c section route? Baby was normal weight but had a large head 🤣

Our 3rd had a big head and tore me quite badly, our next was breech twins so I had an elcs. This one is due Aug and my consultant thinks I'm a good candidate for vbac despite previous births and history of big babies.

May be worth asking for a consultant referral to discuss options.

I had a 3rd degree with my second.
I actually tried to push for a csection but they weren't keen on it.

But no, with a 2nd degree tear they won't push for induction or csection.

I know many people who had a 2nd degree the first time and didn't even tear the second time

I had a similar injury to yours (second, bordering third degree, needed a lot of internal stitching which they almost did in theatre) and an identical one second time too. No suggestion of anything other than a VB. I healed a lot better the second time and they actually repaired some of the mess from the first time.

dementedpixie · 30/03/2021 12:39

I had 2nd degree tear with my first that took ages to sew. Also had a 2nd degree tear with my second but it didn't bleed and was left to heal itself

I had a 3rd degree tear during my first labour (2hrs pushing), lots of internal stitching and two clitoral tears. It was not fun. Second baby basically flew out - all done with two pushes, a couple of small abrasions but no stitching required

Do you mean they refused to let you have a c section @SnooperTrooper12345 so you had to have a vbac? I'm wanting a c section after a 3rd degree tear this time round and I'm worried they won't let me!

My first baby I didn't tear, my second, I had a 3rd degree tear with and wanted to request a csection for this baby as it took me a long time to heal and still get pain from it now, over 3 years later. My consultant wouldn't agree to a csection and neither would the second opinion consultant. And I just dont have the guts to fight for it. Its already caused enough stress with both them rejecting it. So I'm 39 weeks now and heading for a vaginal birth

You have to be prepared to fight for it. And may end up seeing many many people to find someone that will agree.

I just didn't have the confidence to do that

I had a 3rd degree tear and episiotomy with my first. When I saw the consultant in my second pregnancy, C section was not discussed or offered. I didn't realise to ask/request. The consultant told me I had a less than 5% chance of tearing as badly again. This was 11yrs ago.

I've gone on to have 3 further babies, each with large heads (GP was shocked by DD2 when he measured) and a second degree tear each time. With my 4th I'm pretty sure I tore along the same old tear. They did take ages to stitch but I don't really know where they were.

However my recovery, in terms of pain/discomfort etc from the 3 second degree was minimal. It was ok and the births themselves were ok. On balance I'm glad they were all vaginal especially with small gaps.

I know all tears are different. I would probably ask to see a consultant to discuss your options if not routinely offered.

Interesting feedback thank you all. I doubt they would push me down a c section as I also have low platelets again which could mean I am higher risk of bleeding.

@OhNoGroken very similar so fingers crossed this one fly’s out too 😂🤣

I had a third degree tear with my first.

I honestly assumed that tear once, tear again. My second was larger, but I gave birth in the pool and all 4s. I was amazed when the midwife said I hadn't torn! She was impressed with her stitching lol.
