Hiya guys, I'm being induced on Friday at 39 weeks due to reduced movement. This is my first baby and I am just wondering if anyone has any advice or tips for me. I know everyone's labour Is very very different but any little tips would be appreciated or even happy story's just to make me a feel abit less anxious. I'm quite nervous as of course I don't know what to expect.

Hi op, I was induced at 42 weeks as baby not showing any signs of coming on their own. Contractions started within a few hours of the first gels and they were quite intense very quickly. Be open minded about pain relief, but also be very firm. I had decided before my induction that if I needed the drip I'd have an epidural first after reading on here how painful it is. I found the midwives tried to convince me to start the drip and wait for an epidural, I refused. It took them six hours to get to me with an epidural, if I'd started the drip, baby would have already been born.
Honestly, until the epidural I found it incredibly painful, but I have nothing to compare it to and so much vomiting. It was still the most amazing experience ever and I can't wait to do it again in September. I went in 10:45 on the Tuesday and baby born 18:15 on the Wednesday so it was quite long and I was absolutely shattered. Epidural gave me a chance to have a little sleep.
Hopefully your partner can be with you for most of it. Good luck!

I'd second asking for an epidural if they want you to have the drip. I had the drip thinking I could manage the pain with hypnotherapy and a tens machine. How wrong I was! Eventually had an epidural and it was bliss. Unfortunately I didn't progress and ended up with an EMCS but because I'd already had the epidural it was easy for them to top it up for the operation x

I third asking for an epidural if you are on the drip. It makes the contractions much more painful and intense. I wasn't told I should do it and had to then have an epidural put in partway through, with the anaesthetist having to do it really slowly between contractions, where I desperately tried to hold still. It also didn't work very well - maybe due to how I received it.

A 4th person here saying have the epidural when you get the drip 😂 all through my pregnancy i said i wouldn't have an epidural but sometimes plans just don't work out. My induction took 72 hours to start working and i was already exhausted and emotional so i took it straight away, so glad i did as managed to get some rest! Good luck xx

Thank you so much! After reviving your comments and all the others if I have the drip I'm definitely gonna the epidural first I'll tell them Thursday when I go before I even get induced lol. It's such a scary time just the most exciting time too.

Be prepared for a long wait. Mine took 4 days. Take snacks, iPad, books, music etc. I was in for 8 hours before even having the first pessary!

If you need the hormone drip have an epidural, it makes labor more intense earlier than natural onset.
Mine took 3 days from 1st pessary, 7hr 38mins after waters broken in delivery. Hormone drip made me vomit too which was not nice, high as a kite on G&A then was talked in to epidural and it was much calmer until she was in fetal distress with cord round neck later on. They used vontouse to get her out faster, left me with a lot of bruising after. Took me longer to feel normal after her than my 2 natural onset vb's and cesarean.

Good luck, hope all goes smoothly
