Hey! So I took my first test at 10dpo and it was positive. I then took a clear
Blue digital later that day and it said 1-2 weeks. Why is the line soooo dark if I’m now only 2 weeks and 12 dpo? (First response one) Any ideas? X

When CB says 1-2 weeks it means 1-2 weeks from conception (ovulation day). Doctors count pregnancy from the day of your last period, which is roughly 2 weeks before conception. Therefore, 1-2 weeks on CB = 3-4 weeks pregnant.
Congratulations, you are pregnant and you have some lovely dark lines! Wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy! ❤️

Like PP said you add 2 weeks on to the digital tests as they state weeks after conception. Either way the midwives will date you from 1st day if lmp until you have a dating scan which will give you your official estimated due date.
Congrats and good luck.

Don't worry if it isn't. You won't hear from a midwife for a while and your first appointment won't be until between 8 and 10 weeks
SimplyAmy1 · 29/03/2021 15:37

I have a health condition called neurofibromatosis it’s basically where tumours grow along my nerves so I was hoping to see someone to talk about it, I didn’t realise it was 8 weeks! Xx

@SimplyAmy1 Don't worry if the midwives don't contact you until you are 8-10 weeks along, it is standard practice.
In the meantime, if you have concerns about your health condition, especially if you are on any medication for it, you should speak to your GP.
Congratulations again and best of luck! ❤️

@SimplyAmy1 did you conceive with IVF or the "classic" way?

Women with Nf1 have a higher risk of complication and also a higher risk of miscarriage so you shouldn't wait for the normal call and be proactive in contacting one and discuss how nf1 will impact your pregnancy and how to increase your chances of a successful pregnancy.

If you haven't done Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PDG), you should maybe contact your nf1 clinic and discuss genetic testing at birth, or earlier.

Are you followed at an Nf1 clinic? I have Nf1 too , in case it wasn't obvious

SimplyAmy1 · 05/04/2021 07:15

@Kaiken hey,
Nope, no IVF for me... my doctor told me there’s an increased risk of miscarriage but I’d rather not worrry and just be positive, when I called her I asked if there’s anything else to do and she said no I just need to call back and book in with the midwife at 8 weeks, but I’m gonna call this week and try and get booked in the following week at 6 weeks for an early scan. I have been put forward to a special service but not heard anything yet. Are you in the uk? I don’t have an NF clinic but my neurologist discharged me a year ago:

Are you pregnant/ have any children? Xx

I think your gp is not very well informed. We have higher rate of gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, IUGR, and preterm labor and a very high rate of c-section

I have children but also had two late stage miscarriages in the third trimester.

I am in Australia and there is no such thing as being discharged from a neurologist as Nf1 is a life long disease that requires monitoring. The tumours on the nerves are only a small part of it. I am under the care of a whole team , mainly an oncologist and have breast MRI every year. I aa a mild case from a skin point of view but this doesn’t rule out a whole bunch of complications.

Maybe you should request a consultation at your nearest genetics center because things have revolved a lot in the recent years on what we know about Nf1 and its implications. Also they might suggest an early CVS test if you want to know if you passed it to your child. For those with Nf1 it is done at 10 weeks instead of the typical 12 weeks.

I am all about being positive but Nf1 is a tricky disease and it shouldn’t be ignored.
I was actually diagnosed in France and still continue to follow their guidelines
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6998847/ Australia is way behind and as they follow uk, I would think so is UK.

Sorry, I don’t want to ruin the joy of your pregnancy but better safe than sorry.

SimplyAmy1 · 05/04/2021 08:51

Oh of course, always better to be safe than sorry. I have tumours under and over the skin and then cafe au lait spots and marks too. I used
To have MRI scans every few months but haven’t since the neurologist discharged me.
I’m
Sorry to hear about your late miscarriages, I tried to book in today for next week but the doctors are closed as it bank holiday for Easter.
I don’t know what to do
Because I feel like if I needed to do anything particular, my doctor should or
Would have told me but now you’ve made me worry haha but I do appreciate everything you’ve said, I don’t even know if we have a genetics centre here xx

There is no urgency concerning your health.

Most of the issues for the pregnant mothers occur late, in the third trimester.
The question is about knowing if the baby has it too and if this is something you want to know or not. If this doesn't matter to you and wouldn't affect choices, there is no rush to have early diagnostic genetic test.
In which case, you can now relax.
After the birth, there will be plenty of time, to look for someone that can check on you once a year.

I hope everything will go well for you and baby xx
