Where have all the nursery shops gone?

So here I am pregnant with my 3rd baby. Only 9+4 so haven't bought a thing yet - I feel it's too early. My brother asked me on Friday what I'd bought so far. I think he's crazy!!

Anyway, it got me thinking. When I had my last baby who is now 9 years old we had Mothercare, Kiddicare, Babies R Us, Kiddisave, Mamas and Papas and various others. Currently I can only think of Smyths Toy Superstore where (after restrictions have been lifted) we can go inside and do some 'Proper' shopping. The rest have all closed down!!

Does anyone know any good West Midlands based shops for baby items?

Thanks!

There isn't really in the West Midlands - I had twins in January and relied on Sainsbury ASDA and Amazon and John Lewis during the Xmas sales

They have all gone out of business. I was devastated when mothercare went. 🙁

Chelyanne · 28/03/2021 18:41

M&Post are still around. Most have gone online only or out of business.

I know it was nicer to go look at things in person but seems it's becoming a thing of the past.

M & P's blooming auto correct

Thanks for the replies! Yes such a shame they've all gone 😞

Online it is then! Suppose I have to move with the times

I'm in the same boat, though I'm 20 weeks and luckily I kept most of DS1 stuff but I'd love to have gone shopping instead of online shopping

I'm hoping I have a loft full of old baby items, will send DP up there in a few weeks to have a nose. I'm scared of the spiders so there could be anything up there that I decided to keep 9 years ago. Hoping for a nice surprise ☺ I would like a new pram though.

John Lewis baby dept is always a good start.

When you say midlands are you near Rugby? There is an amazing baby shop near there in the countryside with a showroom and cafe. It’s family run and the team will give you demos of all the pram brands you want to try if you make an appointment.

It’s called the Baby Barn, here’s the website

Is there still a Mama's and Papa's near Leamington? It was next to Mothercare which was very handy...alas...

AngeloMysterioso · 30/03/2021 21:33

If you can be bothered to trek that far Winstanleys in Wigan is great

LulusMiniEgg · 30/03/2021 21:42

Independents are where it’s at! The one I work for is flying and going from strength to strength. Based near Liverpool though so probably too far for you to travel I guess?
Think all the big ones had too many overheads and bought too much stock. Smaller independents can be a bit more flexible and give you a great deal that really caters to your needs rather than a set bundle.
Buying your pram has become a real ‘event’, similar to wedding dress shopping we have found. Make a day of it and book some appointments when the shops reopen on the 12th April.
I love my job, can you tell?!

Jolly Tots in Yardley.
If you don’t mind second-hand then Small Changes in Lyndon is a charity shop devoted to baby and children’s items and has a lovely cafe next door.
John Lewis in Solihull.

I f you like natural stuff, then try the Cotton Nappy Co it's now been renamed something else that I cannot remember (they are a general baby shop, very good, run by a lady used to be a midwife) . They are in Leamington Spa if that's not too far. Great for slings etc and organic clothing.

I think a lot of people shop at the various baby shows throughout the year however, with covid they've also been moved online.

There's a great independent based in Leicester, called Baby Planet whose pricing is fabulous- I think they're online now but I've purchased from them in the past at their store and from their stand at the baby show
