What to eat before bed?

Hi all,

Currently almost 17 weeks. "Morning" sickness is loads better and mostly comes back when I'm tired or haven't been eating enough.

Overnight hunger is an issue for me - if I don't get up during the night and eat, I feel terrible in the morning.

I eat a bowl of cereal before bed every night - wondering if I should eat something more filling? Any suggestions?

Peanut butter toast?

FTM91 · 28/03/2021 18:25

I know this isn't helpful because I'm still suggesting cereal...but I've just upgraded from 2 Weetabix to 3 Weetabix and it's been a game changer Grin

Toast, or maybe add a serving of nuts to your cereal might keep you fuller for longer??

Some sort of protein? Slow release carbs? Porridge would probably be better than cereal. Oatcakes and cheese maybe.

@howmanyroads Great shout, I will pick some peanut butter up, thanks!

@FTM91 totally agree re. The wheetabix, I ate them non stop for weeks and they are pretty filling, but I have absolutely sickened myself of them 🤣 I just eat cheerios or bran flakes now. I will definitely try adding nuts, thanks!

I have been really enjoying a slice of buttered bread before bed. Sounds so boring but it's actually so good!
Sometimes a banana too

Thanks @TooMinty, am actually tucking into some porridge with grapes right now! Very filling. Unfortunately have a (hopefully temporary) aversion to cheese after cheese on toast was the only thing I could stomach for weeks 🤢

Crumpets. I've been feeling sick in the evening throughout my second trimester and only crumpets were helping.

A protein shake

Lou98 · 28/03/2021 18:44

Banana on toast is a good one! Can even add peanut butter aswell if you like it.

Also keeping stuff next to your bed can be handy for during the night, things like biscuits, crackers, banana, nuts etc so you can quickly nibble them then go back to sleep

Chelyanne · 28/03/2021 18:58

You all make me look completely weird.
I don't eat for 12-14 hours from evening to break-fast. I used to do 20-22 hours pre-pregnancy tho.

I think I might need to keep emergency snacks by my bed! Twice this week I’ve got up between 4-5am to have breakfast because of being so hungry I’ve not been able to sleep. Happened lots in the first trimester and am now 22 weeks and experiencing the nighttime hunger again 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh I hope the cheese aversion doesn't last!

I remember one of my pregnancy books suggesting half a baked potato as a snack - who has time to cook that for a snack? And who only eats half a baked potato?!

A hot cross bun with peanut butter and a dash of honey or jam is my go-to at the moment. So, so good and hits the spot perfectly. I'm 25 weeks tomorrow and although my sickness is luckily long gone, I usually wake up so ravenous my stomach hurts, it's like I haven't eaten for weeks. I never used to be a huge breakfast person but now I definitely am!
