baby walker ban request

For a number of years baby walkers have been known to be dangerous. I had one for my 1st son and soon realised that he got into places that he normally wouldn't be able to and what was the point.

Definitely think they should be banned if they haven't been already.

I'd divert MIL towards something else if I were you
(and you posted in 'Pregnancy' so we guessed dd wasn't here yet!)

we've just got one for DS3 (DS1 and 2 didn't have) and it's a godsend - he adores it and it's making life so much easier for all of us - as he's so content in it.

I've "tested" it's "tipability" (I've shoved it across the carpet at very high speed and with some force several times, into the places where he could end up getting a speed into.....and it showed no sign of tipping up).

I'm SO glad we've got one and in hindsight wish we'd had one especially for DS1 who was an incredibly frustrated baby as he didn't crawl, only learned to roll over properly at 11 months (and only then it one direction), couldn't pull himself up onto furntiture to cruise until he was 14/15 months and didn't walk until 18 months. He was incredibly hard work to look after as he wanted to get things - but couldn't (he's now 7, still can't ride a bike without stabilisers........but can run like the wind LOL).

I have a jumparoo (although at £80 it's a bit pricey) but dd2 has loads of fun. She seem to be very good at star and pike jumps .

She even fall asleep in it sometimes. (I don't leave her in it for too long though)

dd absolutely loved hers. I can still remember the joy in her face when she realised she could follow us about. Physios hate them as they maintain they can delay walking. Didn't seem to do dd any harm. They do have quite a short lifespan though, probably only 3-6 months and they are quite expensive. Probably best getting a second hand one if you can.

DD2 10 months is nearly cruising, but walks along with a baby walker looking at everyone to check their appreciation of her genius. It's hilarious and she loves it, but I need to put my hands in front of the wheels to make sure she doesn;t go too fast and fall flat on her face! I think they're fab if properly supervised

i had one at 4 months. my ds loved it. he was crawling at 6 months and it was great to stop him from getting into trouble. stopped using it at 9 months when he mastered pulling himself up and cruising. he walked at 10 months.
i do think you have to be careful about the stairs. i only used mine downstairs.
