Spots on bump - reaction to creams/oils

Hi everyone I've attached a photo of my belly, I'm 20 weeks &3 days pregnant .

I've been using most nights bio oil on my belly and just started in the mornings using the Palmer's stretch mark cream.

I'm assuming these spots and red marks are a reaction to that as I don't usually moisturise this part of my body so heavily.

I was just wondering if you agree and if you have any tips to combat it ?

I know it's probably a choose your battles kind of thing, id rather have the temporary spots than the stretch marks but just out of curiosity:)

Thank you Smile
J

Looks like a reaction I developed an awful rash in early pregnancy and was very itchy. I had to change my washing powder had to bathe in oats loads to keep it calm.

Those creams won't prevent stretch marks, that sounds like a hell of a lot of moisturising of it, you're probably clogging the pores and not giving your skin time to breathe doing an oil and then a moisturiser morning and night on repeat.

Well it's proven that bio oil and the ingredients in the other does prevent stretch marks so I'd rather have a few spots

I just wanted to know if anyone else had the same experience

You won’t want a few spots if they start itching trust me.

I've zoomed in and this does look a bit like a reaction I had using palmers but mine is under my boobs. I stopped using it and rash has started to go away! Smile

MarshmallowsOnToast · 30/03/2021 09:39

It might not be related to the creams at all.

I had terrible spotty skin when I was pregnant, nothing helped except giving birth!

It was mainly my back & chin but also had it under my boobs like a pp and bump. It was quite painful 😣

Seems like it was just the hormones unfortunately. When I'm on my period, the spots come back on my chin. 👎🏻

I had a reaction to mammas bee belly butter the spots were smaller but it was itching like crazy all day/night.

Now i use just an oil at night and sometimes i think the pores get blocked, as like you, i am not used to moisturise so much and i have similar spots on my belly.

SunnySideUp2020 · 30/03/2021 10:05

I dont have any other spots/ acne anywhere and my skin is dry overall

Yeah I mean it's not the end of the world, maybe I'll just still with the bio oil :) thanks

Oh god yes !

I've never had acne on my back or chest but since getting pregnant it's been really bad , I've come to accept it now- it's not permanent and a small sacrifice in the scheme of things.

I did always suffer with pre period hormonal acne on my chin and around my mouth prior also so I guess I'm prone to it there

It has calmed down since hitting 19/20 weeks so I'm hoping it will stay minimal until the baby is here :)

@Tinkerbellxox I've seen online reviews on palmers products where people have said they came out in a rash.

During my first pregnancy all I did was use bio oil on a night before bed, nothing any other time, and I didn't get any stretch marks :) maybe just moisturise once a day so it's not irritating your skin.

I suffer with very dry skin too so yeah I was shocked to be getting spots on my belly chest and neck - oh the joys of pregnancy haha

But I don't have any itching , just spots I guess

I know it's nothing to worry about , just wondering how common it is - apparently quite lol

I think I'll still to bio oil at night now too

Yeah I think you're right

I'm going to just stick with the bio oil at night from now on :)

@thefishthatcouldwish did you ever work out what caused your rash and did it go away/when?! I am 11 weeks and have developed a really itchy, hivey rash over my arms and legs which is driving me mad! I’ve spoken to the gp and midwife who couldn’t really explain it. Not sure if it’s just the hormonal changes or possibly an allergic reaction to pregnacare which I started taking a little bit before the rash came on. I’ve gone back to plain folic acid to see if that helps and have changed to a milder washing powder so I’m hoping it goes soon but I’m not sure how much longer I can take this!

thefishthatcouldwish · 30/03/2021 14:20

@cams88 my midwife suggested non bio washing powder no fabric softener no perfumes or anything smelly in bath/shower including shower gel.

She also said oats in the bath which whilst messy eased it so much.

Had emulation cream to use.
Also was prescribed antihistamine which I only took once one night when it was horrific. Midwife said to take only if really necessary but would help me sleep which it did.

cams88 · 30/03/2021 16:16

@thefishthatcouldwish thank you, I’ve read about the oat bath but haven’t tried that yet. How long did yours last for? I’m hoping it’s temporary and isn’t going to stick around for the whole pregnancy 😂
