Pramsuit?

I'm due at the end of may and I'm not sure if I'll need a pramsuit. As it might be warm but baby will be very young so he'll need to keep warm etc.

Did you have one for your end of may/early June babies?

It's easier to add thin layers to warm them up rather than throw them in something overly thick like a pram suit. Babies don't need to be as warm as you think, over heating is very dangerous. More so than getting cold.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 27/03/2021 12:35

I only use a pram suit in the colder months.
Definitely wouldn't use one in May.
It's much easier to add blankets and several layers so you can remove them as needed

SnooperTrooper12345 · 27/03/2021 12:36

As a rough guide, babies only need 1 layer more than you

I had a baby end of feb and only used the pram suit once so I’d say you don’t need one

sipsmith1 · 27/03/2021 12:56

I had a June baby last year and started using a pramsuit in October. Even on cooler days in the summer we’d just put tights on under her clothes and add a jumper but it was very rare!

Cannotgarden · 27/03/2021 12:57

Pram suits are awful whatever the weather..I'd recommend a star wrap.

Nameregretter · 27/03/2021 13:01

Seriously don’t bother!

Piccalily19 · 27/03/2021 13:07

Yep don’t bother. My son was born early Feb and we so kindly got gifted about 4/5 of them in size 0-3months. Ironically we had to buy one ourselves in newborn size as they seem to fit big. He’s worn the one we got him probably less than 5 times (during the snow/real cold few weeks we had in Feb) and sadly he won’t get to wear the gifted ones as it’s too hot now!
A cute little jacket and hat with blankets depending on the temp outside is our preferred method!

We have a mixture of thin and thick all in one suits. The thin ones were ideal for chilly days in spring summer and for in the carseat. I much prefer the thin ones tbh and went with thick fleece footmuffs for our twins when walking the dog rather than the thick pramsuits.

halllftheworllldawway · 27/03/2021 13:51

I only used a pram suit with my baby born in January. It was bitterly cold for a couple of months and it was nice to zip her up. Only needed her clothes underneath no layers. Stopped using it in March.

My summer born couldn't have used one it would have been far too hot.

stuckinarutatwork · 27/03/2021 13:54

Almost certainly not necessary. A knitted jacket over a babygro would most likely be fine, with a blanket tucked over if a little chilly.

welshladywhois40 · 27/03/2021 14:36

I had a may baby and didn't use a pram suit. If anything I spent all my time keeping him cool.

Cardigan and blankets

MotherPiglet · 27/03/2021 14:47

You definitely wont need one for a May baby. Cardigans and cellular blankets

Twizbe · 27/03/2021 14:49

I had a January and an early Feb baby, hardly used pram suits. Blankets and layers were better and easier to remove when you went into shops

Sansaplans · 27/03/2021 14:52

If wait and then get one for winter (when you know what size you'll need, DS was also in the size above his age!), and only if you'll need one. Ours was great as I didn't have a car at the time and we were out and about in the pram a lot for walks for a change of scenery so outdoors the whole time. If you're popping in and out of shops though I wouldn't recommend one as they might get too hot- but all depends really!

EvilOnion · 27/03/2021 14:53

Another saying don't bother.

They're a pain in the ass if you're going in and out of the car/house/shops as the baby will overheat if you leave it on so need to keep disturbing them.

Also worth remembering thicker, padded suits/jackets shouldn't be used at all in car seats as it can cause issues with fitting the straps.

myfault · 27/03/2021 14:54

Good time to keep an eye out in sales for a 6 to 9 month one though.

Kimye4eva · 27/03/2021 15:00

Definitely no need in May and I’d question their use in winter for a newborn given what a faff they are to put on and how much newborns hate being dressed!

OP I bought a light one for DC1 born in June. It got worn for the first (and only) time by DC2 born in December 3.5 years later.

LouNatics · 27/03/2021 15:04

How many times will you be going out with a baby in a pram. Just outside and just in a pram. So, not going out to the shop, not stopping for a coffee, no using the carrier or a car seat too during the outing, not going to the shops or indoors at all, and taking the baby out of the suit straight away when getting home (even if they are asleep).

I only ever had one for a November baby and it was a gift, put baby in it once and realised it was totally impractical. Other babies, no regardless of birth season

MrsTophamHat · 27/03/2021 15:09

I used mine loads from about October onwards. I walked miles and miles with my pram just get out of the house, listening to podcasts.
