2nd baby after traumatic first birth

Hello,

I’m due to give birth to my second baby soon, we are very excited. I had a very traumatic birth with my first, he was breach, I had a c section and haemorrhaged a few ours later. I lost a lot of blood and ended up passing out, I don’t remember much of the rest of the day.
I am terrified this will happen again and I was just wondering if anyone has been through the same and can give me advise on how to not panic and try to enjoy the birth this time? Thanks ladies

If you are going elcs again they will monitor you more closely as the previous will have you classed as high risk of a repeat. They would likely spot any issue much earlier and have it under control so I wouldn't worry too much.

I had an elcs with my last, breech twins. I lost a lot of blood too but it was spotted quite early so I didn't lose so much that I was ill with it.

Aww thank you, I was very poorly for along time afterwards. Currently I have been told baby is head down so I’m hoping to see if I can have a natural birth. I’m just so scared of loosing that much blood again.

I had a traumatic birth with my first and found it really helpful to go through my birth notes with a hospital consultant who was able to explain what went wrong and why. Are you under consultant care for your second? If not, call your midwife now and explain your concerns and ask to speak to someone asap.

I have just received my notes from the hospital, I am under consultancy care, and I am speaking to a birth trauma lady. Hoping they can settle the nerves. I just wish I had a crystal ball to see if things will be ok.

My experience wasn’t exactly the same, but with my first I had a long labour, terrible third degree year, labial tearing and lost a lot of blood, resulting in surgery and a blood transfusion.
I had my second less than three years later. It was a back-to-back labour, but despite this, it was shorter, I had only a minor tear and minimal blood loss.
Try to remember that every birth is different. Lots of women have a perfectly good experience following a bad one. Maybe have a chat to your midwife about how you are feeling.
Good luck
