Recurrent early miscarriage

Hi
Just wondered if anyone has any similar experiences to mine.
I have a little boy who is 2 and a half. We took a little while to conceive (about 11 months) but no major issues.
We have been trying to get pregnant again now for just over a year. I had an early miscarriage (at about 5 weeks) in July.
I went for a private consultation in Feb and was prescribed progesterone suppositories. I took them last month, got pregnant again and miscarried at around 4 weeks. I took them again this month and exactly the same thing is happening now 😢
We are going to get some tests to see what is going on as we can get pregnant but keep having early miscarriages for some reason.
I’ve read about baby aspirin being helpful but not sure whether to take it without it being recommended by a doctor. I had hoped the progesterone was the issue but while it seems to help me get pregnant, I still miscarry.
I have just turned 36 so could be my age?
Any advice/suggestions/comments would be welcome 😊

Hi
So sorry to hear you are going through this.
We went for a scan after lots of bleeding and cramping and it turned out I am still pregnant. Just over 8 weeks so I appreciate still not out of the woods yet. If your pregnancy tests are still positive for a little while maybe get a scan at your early pregnancy unit just in case.
If you are having another miscarriage, I think the progesterone hormone helped us. They are suppositories which I took from ovulation and you can take them all the way to week 12. I think progesterone can help with getting pregnant and helping to stay pregnant in the first trimester.

You can also get referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic if you have had 3 miscarriages. They may be able to do more tests?
Let us know how you get on xxx

I went through the same for DC3 I had 6 miscarriages ahead of having DD. I took baby aspirin every day plus cyclogest every day.

@HKN1 oh that is great news. I am so pleased for you. How long have you got until your next scan?

The bleeding/cramping hasn't got any worse nor better but it's lots of watery brown blood like how my 2nd miscarriage started. If there is no change by Thursday I will go and get my bloods done with my EPU.

I had heard good things about progesterone pessaries but when I have had my progesterone levels tested before they have always been a good level. We are hoping to get referred to our local NHS miscarriage clinic who can do any tests which have not been done - or just get a second opinion on what we do next.

That is the worst bit with the 3rd one, we had a plan - to privately get tested but now the tests are all done I feel at a loss on what we do next!

@SleeplessinEastSussex - thank you for your reply and sorry about your losses. What tests did you get done in order to get prescribed the cyclogest. What does that do?

HKN1 · 27/04/2021 07:23

It’s horrible now knowing what to do next.
I’d keep taking tests each week just to be sure. I am still getting brown watery discharge now tbh but been told they don’t know what it is. I had the same with my other miscarriages.
I think there are lots of tests they can do so I’m sure there are more which they haven’t already done for you. A couple of ladies on here said about getting thyroid tested so they could test things like that if they haven’t already.
I’m going to get a private scan later this week when I should be 9 weeks. I was told I’d had a miscarriage and I bled really heavily so I’m not sure I quite believe anyone yet! Xx

@J785948 - I was really pushy with my doctor after 4 miscarriages and insisted being referred. Cyclogest is a progesterone supplement. I also took zinc and vitamin D. I was so nervous my whole pregnancy compared to my other 2. Fingers crossed for you

J785948 · 27/04/2021 16:34

@HKN1 Best of luck with your scan later this week.

I have been referred to the EPU for a blood test on Thursday but I know it is the end - but hoping this will start the ball rolling speaking to someone else for some advice. Will have to just try again I suppose.

Both my last two miscarriages we have conceived on a second attempt at ovulating (I OPK) with two LH surges (but one of those clearly a failed attempt) so I am wondering whether my very early MCs are as a result of poor quality over ripe eggs.

@SleeplessinEastSussex thank you for the advice. I don't think I have a problem with low progesterone (I have 14 days until my period post ovulation) and I don't spot before period but I am at the point of trying anything now. I take the pregnancies vitamins which I think have most of the main things.

Thank you again for your responses xx

Hello, wanted to let you know my story in case any part is useful. I’m 40 and I’ve had three miscarriages+ issues conceiving. Had private testing/scans/ semen analysis which revealed no issues with me or my partner so after doing my own research I started taking CoQ10 for three months. Fell pregnant and am now 12 weeks tomorrow. I’m under my hospitals recurrent miscarriage clinic who’ve scanned me twice already and consultant prescribed cyclogest (pessaries) from 5 weeks which has helped. I would say I’ve had to advocate for myself hard- chasing appointments, test results, insisting on scans, investigations etc it’s not been easy. I have my dating scan next week and am nervous but feeling positive. Please feel free to Pm me if you want to chat .

J785948 · 29/04/2021 20:51

@FrangipanFlower Thank you for your story. It has given me a lot of hope at a time when I have little. May I ask what CoQ10 is?

I am unfortunately still in limbo with mc #3 as the scan showed something (but not a clear sac nor any yolk) so the EPU want me back for another blood test and scan next week. I know it is over for this pregnancy - but it is hard when they all still remain positive. I would rather just be told we have little chance for this one and move on.

I did however take your words about pushing for tests so the EPU have agreed to push for a NHS referral for their gyno sooner than waiting the typical 6 weeks seeing as I have had all of the recurrent miscarriage tests already. I will take your advice and push for as many tests as possible.

Thank you again for your kind words xx

CoQ10 is a supplement that is often given to women going through ivf and some studies have shown that it has improved egg quality. The usual cycle for eggs is three months so the theory is that everything you do will have an impact on eggs in three months time. I’ve also had acupuncture in the past which has been amazing - regulated my cycles and definitely helped me fall pregnant when previously it had taken a long time. I took FutureYou Cambridge’s CoQ10 supplements that worked out about £10 a box.

FrangipanFlower · 30/04/2021 08:21

Also I’m so sorry you’re in limbo, it’s frankly the sh***t place to be, I really send you oceans of love and support. I’m not sure where in the UK you are but I had counselling from the charity Petals who were absolutely brilliant.

J785948 · 01/05/2021 07:38

@FrangipanFlower Thank you so much for the recommendations. I have found them on amazon and once my miscarriage is confirmed I will 100% order them.

The limbo is indeed the worst. One minute I am just waiting for the MC to start the next minute I have some hope. I haven't had any more spotting since Wednesday - but I can't get out of my head that the gestational sac that they thought they saw was so small, and my hormones were not doubling every 48 hours.

Then it's how the MC affects work - I can't afford to take any time off work this time, so being in limbo on when I am going to have to go through the physical side of things is equally hard.

Your advice is much appreciated. Thank you xx
