3 weeks pregnant. Nurse working with aggressive people. When do I tell my work?

Hi I have found out I'm pregnant and it's very early on. I am a nurse and some of my patients can be very aggressive at times and need restraining. I'm wondering when do I tell my work? I'm only 3 weeks at present.

Thank you

ASAP so they can do a risk assessment. You wouldn't want to be putting yourself in the position where someone could hurt you and cause problems with the pregnancy if they can alter your role to remove or minimise the risk.

MGee123 · 24/03/2021 10:44

Your line manager needs to complete a risk assessment with you.

Tigerlily08 · 24/03/2021 10:45

I'm a prison officer so was in a very similar situation. I told work pretty much as soon as I found out at 5-6 weeks. They immediately completed a risk assessment and moved me into a non-prisoner facing role. All the best with your pregnancy x

Assuming you're a mental health nurse?

Tell your ward manager, there's a standard risk assessment to complete.

Don't be afraid to say what you want. You should stop restraining now but you could ask to keep working clinically until you're showing/willing to announce the pregnancy to the wider team.

If you want to, you might be happy to get off the frontline! Grin

3 weeks pregnant? Your last period was 3 weeks ago and you know that you’re pregnant?

Hi,

Yes I've had 8 positive pregnancy tests and 2 clear blue showing I'm 3 weeks+ and my last period was just over 3 weeks ago.

Thanks

@Brunt0n maybe the OP means 3 weeks since ovulation. The clear blue tests say 2-3 when they should be saying 6-7. (I'm sure you knew this but wanted to be snipey).

OP I'd have a word with your manager and get a risk assessment done.

Brunt0n · 24/03/2021 11:00

I’m just making sure that the OP is aware that if her test is saying 3+ she isn’t 3 weeks pregnant. Which it doesn’t seem like she knows! So she’s actually 5-6 weeks pregnant. I would have wanted someone to tell me that 🤷🏼‍♀️

CLeighannHxo · 24/03/2021 11:01

I work in a care home and at the time of finding out that i was pregnant we had a few residents that where very unpredictable and aggressive, so I told my manager ASAP so that a risk assessment could be done and I was told to stay clear from those individuals.

Thank you for this. So to be precise my last period was 1st of March. So I used a calculator online which states I would just be around 3 weeks.

If your last period was on 1st of March then a clear blue wouldn’t be showing 3+, I think you might be further along than you think 🙂

Ahh thank you :) I may be 4 weeks or so then. I work in an elderly dementia unit so I think I might wait until I've had my appt. I've had a previous ectopic pregnancy so I'm assuming I may get an early scan. So could wait until then.

Good luck with it! Private scan places are available from around 7 weeks, I had my first scan then and you should be able to see baby is in the right place and could see a heartbeat ☺️

ASAP op!!! X

This is a sign I've spent too long ttc, but if a clear blue is showing 3+ weeks there's no way your last period was 1 March - I think its possible you had a bleed that wasn't a period and you're further along.

Basically if you ovulated on day 14 of your cycle (14th march) and it took 10 days to implant (24th March) the earliest you'd be getting a faint positive would be today. Even if you ovulated on day 9 there's basically no way to make the maths work, as a clearblue 3+. is what everyone else calls 6 weeks pregnant dating it from your last period.

I'm only saying this because I think you're possibly a month ahead of where you think you are, more like 7 or 8 weeks pregnant, and in that case you might want to talk to people sooner than later.

Hello thank you for this. I have since took another clear blue which has came back at 2-3 weeks. Possibly this fits the timeline better. I'm not so sure. I don't know accurate they are. X

I would tell your manager ASAP as you will need to be risk assessed and the unit will have to take actions to reduce the contact between you and the aggressive patients. You also need to avoid caring for COVID positive patients and may need other alterations to keep you safe at work. You need to put yourself and your safety first. I’m a nurse myself and had to tell work at 5 weeks! X

Soexciting · 24/03/2021 17:01

I am 3 weeks and 6 days and have known for 2 days. Positive test at 11 dpo. These new test are incredible. Good luck with your pregnancy. I am a teacher but holding out since the risk assessment here is not worth the paper it's written on.
