Aspirin to prevent miscarriage

Sorry, I know there's been a lot of threads about this recently but I wondered if anyone has ever been told NOT to take low-dose Aspirin by a health professional?
I've just had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. It was my first pregnancy so I know I won't be able to have any testing done but I want to do everything in my control to stop this happening again next time. There's research that found it's most beneficial when it's started before conception so I was thinking about taking it now before we start trying again. I haven't found anything that says low dose (75-150mg) can do any harm if taken when it isn't actually needed, although the advice is always 'don't take it unless you've been told to by your doctor'.
Has anyone know any differently?
Thanks 🙂 xx

It may not prevent further mc for you. It may help some women but if the reason for mc was a genetic problem with the fetus then it will not help.
You can try it though if you like. Good luck ttc

I've had 5 mc's between 8 & 12wk and several chemicals, never been advised to take aspirin. I have had 5 live births from 4 pregnancies and currently 19wk pregnant. This one follows 2 mc's and a few chemicals so not been the easiest to get here but thankful that I am and baby is doing well so far.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have taken aspirin myself but that was after 2 consecutive miscarriages. I personally would not take it in your shoes after just one miscarriage as unless you have other health concerns like being an older mum, it's probably not necessary. After my 2 miscarriages I have 3 more pregnancies that I took baby aspirin from conception for. Two were successful but one wasn't so I still don't know if it made a difference, it's certainly didn't to the pregnancy that failed.

It's hard after a loss because I know you feel you want to try something new to change the outcome of future pregnancies but in most cases, miscarriages are just bad luck and the odds are very much in your favour that your next pregnancy will be successful without you taking anything other than the recommended prenatal vitamins.

Taking the baby aspirin did feel like an extra pressure to be honest. I was scared to miss a tablet and scared to stop taking it. Different doctors have different views on how much to take and when to stop. Imo it would be an added anxiety for you during your next pregnancy.

But in answer to your question, I don't think a low dose (75mg) can cause harm but I would 100% discuss with your GP first.

Good luck with your next pregnancy.

Sorry for your loss MC is so awful

I considered it after 2 MCs but decided against it because if anything had gone wrong again I would always have wondered if it was the aspirin

Anyway it was third time lucky for me I'm now 30 weeks.

There's many reasons for MCs to happen I know it's really tough but I think after 1 you just have to trust your body knows what it's doing and try again

Thank you for replies, I really appreciate it, and congratulations on your pregnancies!

I think that's a really good point @May2021Mummy If I do take it and then have another loss I'll always wonder if it was because of the aspirin.
I just can't imagine how awful it must feel to go through the trauma of 3 miscarriages before finally having investigations and finding out there was an easily preventable cause.
I'm 35 so I've started taking Ubiquinol which I don't think can do any harm. I'm hoping that the 2 months of no alcohol, less caffeine and eating well whilst I was pregnant will have prepared my body for next time too

After 4 miscarriages I started myself on 150mg aspirin from 1dpo and then got pregnant with my current pregnancy (am now 14+1).

I told my midwife at my booking appointment that I was taking it and she was happy. She checked with a consultant who also agreed it would do no harm and that that is the dose they would recommend, and I’ve been told to keep taking it until I’m into third trimester.

I’m 38 so was also taking 200mg of ubiquinol a day as well as a high dose of vit d and folic acid.

Good luck xx

Ah that's interesting @Moominmiss If the the consultant said it does no harm then that must be right. Had you already had bloods done which showed clotting wasn't an issue?
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope you're able to relax and enjoy it now you've made it to the 2nd trimester xx

@Flopsy88 Whatever decision you make I wish you the best of luck unfortunately MC is an all to common occurrence but for many there is light at the end of the tunnel it just really doesn't feel like it while you are going through the rollercoaster of emotions 🥰
