Third trimester current Covid guidance

Anyone know what the current Covid guidance around 3rd trimester and whether it is changing on 1st April with other shielders? I am a teacher trying to figure this out with my school at the moment and no one seems to know, we currently have third trimester pregnant staff working from home at the moment but I have been told this is likely to change. I am currently 22 weeks so will be 28 weeks shortly after the Easter hols. I’ve been in touch with my Midwife team and they said they are unable to offer specific workplace guidance or advice...

Seeing as we aren't able/advised to be vaccinated, surely advice will stay the same for 3rd trimester pregnant women? As the risk to us hasn't changed really, whereas most people who are shielding for other reasons will have been offered a vaccine?

tier4tears · 22/03/2021 17:39

Following as I’m a teacher in exactly the same position. Will be 28 weeks 4 days after we break up from Easter.

TomHardyAndMe · 22/03/2021 17:43

RCOG should have guidance on their website?

Smurf123 · 22/03/2021 18:09

I think the wfh guidance still applies from 28 weeks

Nat4392 · 22/03/2021 18:39

As long as you can socially distance, you can still physically go into work after 28 weeks. Advice is to wfh where possible otherwise. I finish in 5 weeks, I’m still in work as I can’t wfh but my role has had to change slightly.

Peaplant20 · 22/03/2021 19:31

Following as in the same position! Will be 28 weeks in the Easter hols and really hoping nothing changes x

TomHardyAndMe · 22/03/2021 19:35

It’s already changed........

Sleepyjeanie · 22/03/2021 19:41

The advice so far as we are aware doesn’t change past 28 weeks so you work off the current guidance and plan accordingly. You are not in a Group where the vaccine will be offered and therefore it is extremely unlikely the guidance will change. My practice nurse advised that there is unlikely to be approval of the vaccine for pregnant women until January 2022 when the clinical trials are due to complete. So I would work of the basis that the guidance will not change.

@TomHardyAndMe what do you mean? The guidance still says to work from home if you can’t socially distance from 28 weeks. That’s what it was before it’s not changed?

boymum88 · 22/03/2021 20:54

The guidelines are still the same, once 28 wfh if you can if you cannot wfh then off on full pay

I doubt this will Change until after summer or even this year. As most pregnant lady's are not being vaccinated.

LaceyMermaid · 22/03/2021 20:55

I’m a teacher and my work have said I’ll wfh from 28 weeks as they don’t see why the guidance would change. Well still be at risk and still can’t socially distance. I’m not 28 weeks until 1st June either.

WeavingWandering · 23/03/2021 18:09

My midwife said no face-to-face from 28 weeks ... so I suppose it’s possible people might still have to go in, but only if they had a role or a change of role that could guarantee social distancing/ no face to face .

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/03/2021 18:23

I have been told from 1st April guidance is changing to everyone back to work! Anyone else heard this?

End of shielding 31.3.21. So yes, potentially the most vulnerable going back to the frontline......
Sweetpea12 · 23/03/2021 18:52

One of my friends wasn’t advised of anything at 28 weeks and working in a day nursery, they told her it’s up to the employer to tell her the risks. Obviously a day nursery has zero social distancing and I thought the guidance would have been applied

Peaplant20 · 23/03/2021 18:57

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I think shielding and pregnancy are two different things I don’t think they’ll lump them together. The idea with shielding ending is that those people will have had the vaccine whereas we haven’t.

MumBick7 · 23/03/2021 18:58

Hi, I have just been shown this guidance from 28 weeks (im 28 weeks on Sunday) I wasn't aware that in the third trimester we were at greater risk of being ill (despite being otherwise healthy) and at risk of pre term birth.

I'm lucky I can work from home, but this has really worried me and I can't help but feel I need to shield for the remainder of my pregnancy....am I over reacting??

Peaplant20 · 23/03/2021 19:03

@MumBick7 as I understood it there’s not a risk of pre term birth. The risk is that you have a higher changes of being admitted to hospital if you get covid than a non pregnant person and if that happens they are limited as to how they can treat you as you are pregnant. Most pregnant people I know won’t shield entirely from 28 weeks but will be being as sensible as possible. Aka while I’m sure my friends will be back in the pub/ restaurants as soon as they’re alllowed I won’t be! I’ll see my family in the garden etc but that will be about it. No big groups etc. Once baby is here we can do all that :)

MumBick7 · 23/03/2021 19:11

Thankyou for reply, it helps so much hearing from other mums to be.

"This is because although you are at no more risk of contracting the virus than any other non-pregnant person who is in similar health, you have an increased risk of becoming severely ill and of pre-term birth if you contract COVID-19"

This is from the gov website which is where my concern of pre birth comes from. Makes sense that they wouldn't be able to treat us the same...

Peaplant20 · 23/03/2021 19:14

@MumBick7 oh thanks for sharing that I didn’t realise that! Ahhh it’s so scary isn’t it. Think we just have to try and keep as safe as is practically possible xx

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/03/2021 19:18

I wish the government would give some advice

I am currently either facing taking maternity from 1st April or returning to work

MumBick7 · 23/03/2021 19:18

@Peaplant20 very scary 😨

I haventvreally been fearful around covid. I am sensible and have just got on with things. This has hit me like a brick wall today xx

TOWGA · 23/03/2021 19:21

So I have been shielding, and am 28 weeks pregnant today! I have been told I'm back at work next Thursday- I work in retail, am I meant to go back?
