Losing weight during pregnancy

Has anyone intentionally lost weight during pregnancy and if so, how did it go?

I'm 9wks with a high BMI, my booking appointment is this week and I'm terrified. I had started SW before I found I was pregnant and had lost a few lbs, and was hoping to continue but morning sickness decided otherwise.

I've been reading and everywhere I look the advice is to not try and lose weight. I just wondered if anyone had chosen to do so and wha effect (if any) it had on your pregnancy?

I'm 11+2 and have a bmi of 43. I've been told to not actively try to lose weight but if I eat a balanced diet and lose weight that way it'd cause no harm.

Of course my sickness means I can't eat anything relatively healthy and I can only stomach sweet stuff! X

Thanks @Sunflowerx

I'm hoping once (if?!) the sickness wears off it'll be easier to eat healthy and if the weight does come off, that would be ok. I'm not looking to lose a crazy amount but just wanted to make sure if I did, it's safe. I guess I can add the question to my list for the midwife!

Well there's a distinct difference between doing Herbalife whilst pregnant or severely restricting your calorie intake (I am not saying you would do that, just making up an example!) versus eating a more healthy diet (reducing your sugar intake for example)... If you ate 3000 calories of sugar before being pregnant (once again just an example!), then you'd be hard pushed to find someone who'd say that was better than eating 2000 calories from a healthy diet...

I had a BMI of 34 when I started, am currently 40 weeks pregnant and have only put on a few pound. So when baby comes, I'll technically be lighter than when I first started (and healthier) which is no bad thing in my eyes.

Good luck :)

I lost 4.5kgs with my second. That was from booking in to day of delivery. I also was a high bmi and no drinking and healthy eating meant I actually bloat weight (dos was born weighting 9lbs so lost another 4kg that day too.

I’ve just been for my first midwife appointment, expecting a telling off for my weight. My bmi is high ( which I knew) but the midwife couldn’t Of been kinder or more supportive about it.
She hasn't told me to lose weight ( she also didn’t say not to tho) but has referred me to a healthy eating clinic who apparently will give me some advice 🤷‍♀️

She will look at all your risk factors and see if anything else needs to be done. I need a higher dose folic acid and will need aspirin from 12 weeks. (age and weight)

So, don’t worry about your apt. They’re there to help and support, not to judge. They will also talk you through everything they’re doing and testing for and why.

Good luck and enjoy it x

So I had my first appt with midwife 2 weeks ago and she said it was perfectly safe to lose a few pounds in pregnancy as long as it was healthy and recommended using slimming world.

I don't want to lose loads but just enough to get me under the bmi 30 cut off.

I don't the ink they want you to go on a huge restrictive diet for example but switching some options to better choices and adding in fruit and veg etc is not a bad thing

However, I think they are keen that you don't put on excessive amounts rather than trying to lose loads of weight x

Thank you @SECNAA and @Missreginafalange, you've totally put my mind at rest.

I too have been expecting a telling off but it's lovely to hear of your positive experiences.

I'm trying to enjoy it, just worried I guess. I'm sure I'll feel better once I've had the first appointment.

Did you find your scans went ok (in terms of viewing baby)?
