Hospital bag snacks. Pickled eggs??

Getting my hospital bag ready this week and just wondering what other people would pop in snack wise.

I’ve also been obsessed with pickled eggs (anything pickled really), would it be weird if I whacked in a jar in the bag?

Xx

Do it, post natally you can probably draw the curtain in the ward to secret eat if you like.

I’m partial to a pickled egg too!! Actually pickled anything when I’m pregnant is outstanding.

Secretsout · 21/03/2021 16:16

Is this for your 'labour bag'?

Midwife here....I'd say absolutely give the pickled eggs a swerve, you'll probably vomit them back up and clearing up vomit is one of the least pleasant aspects of the midwives role 😂

I usually advise my women to take still/bland drinks and cereal bars, crackers etc. Definitely no eggs or tuna 🤢

Mummyof2Terrors · 21/03/2021 16:22

I was projectile vomiting through the birth and up until 5 mins after birth. I had jelly babies and they were bad enough to throw up. Not saying you will but consider the possibility of them coming back up

SnooperTrooper12345 · 21/03/2021 16:23

Lucozade for energy.

I usually take something like flapjacks ect for energy too

Sexnotgender · 21/03/2021 16:23

Oh god, pickled egg vomit🥴

I’ve packed nakd bars, vegan gummy sweets and lucozade sport for labour.

redcandlelight · 21/03/2021 16:24

please no.
they smell unpleasant to some people.

Chelyanne · 21/03/2021 16:26

I'll pack some protein bars.

eternalflame2020 · 21/03/2021 16:29

Following as so far I have graze honey and oat squares. Otherwise I am struggling!

Does anyone know if drinking water is usually readily available to refil a reusable bottle?

They will usually provide a jug of water for you to have there constantly and refill whenever you need it. From my experience anyway, so you can just tip that in your bottle
SunnySideUp2020 · 21/03/2021 16:37

Wouldn't go for pickled egg just because vomiting them might be awful 😅
Some bananas maybe?

SunnySideUp2020 · 21/03/2021 16:38

I packed cereal bars, prunes, m&ms and biscuits. And some oats in a pot thing if i am really hungry for something warm

Directionerforever · 21/03/2021 16:40

As a midwife please don’t bring pickled eggs into a hot delivery room or a sweltering post natal ward. Please Grin

gemgem1404 · 21/03/2021 16:44

My number 1 aversion has been eggs throughout my pregnancy. This sounds like my worst nightmare being on a ward with someone chowing down on pickled eggs 😂🙈

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 21/03/2021 16:46

I wouldn’t take anything that smells into hospital, likewise public transport as it’s not fair on other people. You might find your cravings disappear the minute you give birth too, I know mine did.

Where I work they are currently giving out bottled water rather than the traditional jugs filled with tap water
LabbyNoona · 21/03/2021 16:48

If you’re going to be in a ward with others I would find this quite inconsiderate, sorry! Plus as others have said, chance of vomiting etc mean blander foods probably better!

Grettle · 21/03/2021 16:51

I’m so glad I asked! Never even thought of the heat on the ward or throwing up, and aroma of pickled egg will be especially unpleasant and I wouldn’t want to make things bad for anyone else. Will steer clear of putting them in the bag.

Will just have to stuff my face with them now!

I can say both during and after labour two previous times eating anything was the last thing on my mind. A takeaway that evening/ when home with a large glass wine yes- but never got through any of the snacks I’d packed for hospital. The adrenaline/ everything else going on / sheer pain of labour - meant no food during and afterwards you’re so spaced I -for once- didn’t even think about food.

FruitLoopzz · 21/03/2021 17:26

The tea and toast they give you after delivery is heavenly! I’d pack cereal bars, Lucozade, some sort of chocolate and nut mix, some crisps x

AntiHop · 21/03/2021 17:36

I'm glad you've changed your mind Grin

Anyway, you'd need to refrigerate them after opening, unless you ate the whole jar at once.

Grettle · 21/03/2021 18:13

@AntiHop I have been known!
