Unsure over positive results

Hi all, I took two different branded pregnancy tests yesterday as my period never arrived, there was definitely two lines on both but the test line was quite faint.
Took another one today and the same result, still faint but definitely there within minutes.
Do I take this as a positive and get in touch with my GP tomorrow?
Also I live in a very rural area that doesn't seem to stock digital tests or first response so that's out of the window.
Thanks in advance!!

I would take it as a positive yes. If you want more reassurance, then I'd test again in a week.
There isn't really any need to contact your doctor until around 6 weeks or so.
My doctors don't actually let you self refer to the midwife until then and then you're not contacted until between 8 and 10 weeks for your booking. So no need to rush

Hi, I tested when I was 4 days late and both my tests were very faint, to the point it was difficult to see. However, I got a strong positive 1 week later. So I would say definitely positive Smile

Should I not tell the doctor straight away?? I'm not sure what I'm doing as this is my first pregnancy and online says to immediately tell you're doctor

You can get frer and other brands on amazon if that's possible? As pp says, no need to contact the doctor yet. Your first appointment is usually not until 8 weeks at the earliest. Congratulations!

Cap89 · 21/03/2021 16:14

I wouldn’t wait to tell the doctor. I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and while everything has been pretty smooth sailing appointment wise I know a number of women have faced nhs delays, so there is absolutely no harm getting yourself into the system ASAP.

It’s also worth noting that in lots of areas you have very little to do with your gp as you self refer to your chosen hospital and then they sort everything. This is my second baby and I actually never bothered to inform my gp either time as went straight through the hospital and my records were updated that way. But your gp will be able to tell you how it works, some areas do do things through the gp.

Anyway, congratulations and best of luck with your pregnancy!

Congratulations! The GP won't be that interested to be honest (assuming you're in the UK). All they'll do is tell you to either self refer to a hospital or refer you on themselves. The first time you'll be seen by anyone is generally the booking appointment at about 8 weeks. They'll go through quite a long questionnaire, take some bloods and weigh you. It's a bit of an anticlimax the first time. I didn't even bother telling the GP this time around, i simply self-referred at around 7 weeks.

DoubleHelix79 · 21/03/2021 16:18

One more thing: In the US they get a lot more appointments, including HCG tests early on. That doesn't typically happen here, unless you're being supported with fertility problems. I'd keep to UK / NHS websites and ignore US specific information.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 21/03/2021 16:21

As PP has said, usually before 6 weeks, the GPs aren't really interested tbh.
And most just give you a link to self refer to the midwife who will then contact you at around 8 weeks.
You won't have any appointments for quite a while yet.

But also as other PP said, there's no harm in trying as a few people have had delays.
But also don't feel like you need to rush and tell them ASAP because it won't make a difference as there's nothing they'll do and most people tend to get disheartened to realise you won't hear from them until around 8 weeks or so.

Check how you get referred to your local maternity service. Where I am you just email a form to the hospital department, nothing to do with the GP.

Last time my hospitals crap and didn't deal with my referral till I got PALS involved. This time the hospital were in touch with in a few days, probably more because my dates suggested I was 12 weeks already (I wasn't and was confident I wasn't) so they had to send me for a scan

Thanks guys!! I'm a wee wreck right now and I don't know why I didn't think to get some better tests on Amazon!! I think the way things around here work is you can contact the gp or community midwifes, I'll do that in a few weeks Grin
