Hi got a beautiful BFP yesterday.

I usually run a minimum of 3 mile per day 7 days a week. Am I OK to carry this on or should I be looking to cut this down a bit? I really don't want to lose my fitness but at the same time I REALLY don't want to cause any harm.
I will be aprox 4/5 weeks along now

My doctor said regarding exercise ect, as long as its something your body was used to before, you're fine

As long as you don't try to force it upon yourself if you do start to struggle. Just have to listen to your body

Thank you so I hooefully should be OK to carry on as before but perhaps keep my longer runs to what they already are rather than increasing as I had previously been doing. I'll be speaking to my Dr tomorrow morning as was due to start looking at fertility treatment on 29th of this month so I'm a little paranoid at the minute!

Firstly, massive congratulations!

I ran my normal long run the day after my bfp, but as you say i didnt increase it anymore and i just listened to my body and didnt push it. I have never ran every day, more 3-4x a week (about 20 miles total) plus weights on other days but i kept this up until 13 weeks when I suffered really bad mid back pain which turned out to be a stuck rib. Not sure if it was pregnancy related or not but got it sorted with an osteopath and was back running a few weeks later but dropped down to about 15 miles a week. I continued like that until week 24 when i started to suffer with pelvis and hip pain which running seemed to aggravate. I am 30 weeks now and seeing my osteo regularly still and with that and stretches have seen improvements. Have done a couple of runs in the the last week 2-3 miles a time but i am very tired after, will be switching to the pool when they open!

My advice would be:
-carry on as you are if you feel up to it
-rest when you need to, dont worry about pace! I felt like superwoman running 5k this morning at 30 weeks even if it was 3min/mile slower than my normal 5k pace
-accept you will feel less fit. I am carrying an extra 2 stone now, and I do feel it in my feet and calves!
-if you do get niggles, dont assume that is the end of your running while pregnant, but stop running and seek professional advice.

I kept my fitness up in weeks i couldnt run with spin bike and making sure i got my 10,000 steps in!

I hope this helps, sorry for long post but I really struggled to find advice when I was in your position!

I enjoyed running when pregnant a lot. Stuck to my distances but stopped bothering about times per mile and just relaxed and went as fast/ slow as felt good.
Every dr I asked said keep going but not if you'll blame yourself if something happens because will not be running related, just bad luck. I was fine 3 times
What i did realise, unfortunately, was that other women seemed to judge it a bad idea and make comments about not caring about the baby . Old wives tales about lack of oxygen and other rubbish when science seems to say quite the opposite.

Carry on as long as you are able. I had to stop during the first trimester due to fatigue, but picked it up again when I felt better. I'm hoping to continue for as long as I can.

My resting heart rate is higher now I'm pregnant, so easy runs do elevate my hr more than they used to.

But generally - keep going, listen to your body and don't feel guilty if you can't/don't want to.

congrats on your BFP! so exciting! defo think if you are used to it you can keep on running, just be warned you may find it gets harder quickly! pretty much soon as tested positive i've found it so hard!! resigned myself to just going slower and if need to walk hills then i do, but otherwise, managed my normal 30 miles a week pretty much for first 14 weeks - stretching and doing more strength as started to get niggles and realised i cant be quite so blase about not bothering with warm up and cool down!
just think if you feel like doing it then great, but dont beat yourself up if there are days when u dont! im just hoping i can enjoy it and manage it for as long as poss!
just listen to your body and sure u be fine :)

I've run with all of mine up until the day before giving birth.

Like other say, just listen to your body and don't try to increase.

I slowed down, keeping my heart rate to no more then 160.

By the end I was running for a set length of time, half an hour, rather then looking at distance. That felt like enough.

I'll be honest this weekends long run didn't happen I planned on a double loop of my 5k route good job I did because after the first 5k a toilet stop was a necessity. Yesterday's run also got cut short for the same reason and today's run just didn't happen. I find when I stop home to pop to the loo I'm happy to just call it a day on the run.

Please tell me this constant need to wee doesn't carry on the way through pregnancy

I was okay from a bladder perspective up until about 2 weeks ago. I'm 20 weeks now and can't get round 5k without having to pee! My running routes have to take this into account 😂 hopefully it will settle down for you. Some pelvic floor exercises are your friend long term regardless!

Echo others re running in pregnancy generally. Expect your mileage to reduce as you go on, and your speed to drop, but perfectly safe to continue as long as you feel comfortable. Listen to your body and don't push it, and accept some days will go better than others. I'm still running 3-4 times a week, weekly mileage of 12-20 miles depending on how I feel. I found the first few weeks psychologically a bit hard (maybe made worse by this being an IVF pregnancy). I couldn't shake the feeling it would cause harm, but after the first 3-4 runs I got back into my stride and it hasn't worried me since 😃

Continue as you are. I kept my same routine until I was about 32 weeks then I found I got really breathless when I went running, so I knew it was time to stop. Your body will let you know.
