Really active baby?!

Hi mums,

So I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I have the most active little baby. I don’t really have anything to reference as it Is my first, however every scan / midwife appointment I have attended they always make a point to mention how much he is moving.

I also find at the times when he moves the most it feels like he’s trying to break through my skin LOL. I’ve videoed his movement and put it on Snapchat / sent it to friends, and everyone who has had babies seems to be in absolute shock by how much he moves about and how much you can see his pushing against my stomach.

So I guess I am intrigued to find out if how he is being in the womb has any correlation to how he is going to be once he’s been born. Has any mums out there had a really active baby in the womb that was super active when they were out?

I don't think there is any correlation at all. My first baby felt like they moved constantly considering they're supposed to sleep like 70% of the day at least in the womb. Felt like they were awake for 70% 😂
Keeping me awake with constant movement ect.

Once he was born, he was the complete opposite. Was such a chill baby, slept through from 8 weeks. He's 8 now and has always been a calm child and an amazing sleeper

I can't help with the correlation but can absolutely relate to the crazy dancing baby! I am 23 weeks with my 3rd, felt movements from very early on and they are more and more frequent/strong by the day... i said yesterday that I swear he/she was doing starjumps cos they were everywhere at once. Kicks could be felt externally by 19 weeks.

The 12 week scan took an hour cos baby was so wiggly. As soon as a hb doppler comes near me the baby literally kicks it off! Every professional so far has commented!

If there is a correlation then I am stuffed... I already have a 2 and 3 year old! Grin

On the bright side I have a sub amniotic hematoma which is a bleed where the cord has started to separate from the placenta which is terrifying. So every movement resssures me that nothing terrible has happened, something I am very grateful for.

My first was wildly active and was the same when he came out. DD laid back before and after. Probably coincidence though

There was a thread about this the other day and we concluded active baby in the womb = non sleeper. Sorry!

However what my doctor said the other day when I had my scan is if you can feel loads of movement it's probably that the baby is back to back with their arms/legs at the front.

My first born was the most crazy mover. I started getting movement at 16 weeks, kicks by 18 wks and by 19/20 wks u cld actually see my tummy moving!

When the midwives used to measure me and have a feel get the heartbeat, she hated it and the movement she wld do wld be quite painful as I got bigger. Good news is I never worried about her activity!

She was head down but back to back and I think I cld really feel her movements coz of that maybe 🤷🏻‍♀️ they only told me she was back to back when I was hours into labour. I never felt her legs at my ribs.

I wouldn't say she was any more crazy than a normal toddler/child. Infact she was quite a chunk and didn't walk till 15 and a half months! She did sleep through from 6wks and has always been a great sleeper.

I was convinced I would go early as she'd break the waters with her movements but...I was induced at 41wks due to persistent high blood pressure.

My second was fairly active but nothing like her sister and I did go in for monitoring once. Felt movements from 11wks and cld see my tummy move by 14 wks. She came early at 37wks as my waters broke. She was also walking at 11 months and physically doing a lot more at a younger age and she's also wild 🙈 loves to climb everything and is a total danger to herself! This one is a bit of a sleep thief sometimes 😣

I've had something similar. Currently 31w, and every scan/Doppler the Dr/midwife has commented on how she won't start still. Had a quiet day yesterday after me overdoing it at the gym, and now I'm worried... (There have definitely been some strong kicks this morning though.) I've been wondering too about whether so much movement in pregnancy can in any way predict anything. It'll be interesting to find out...

jupitermars1345 · 21/03/2021 11:07

I'm 28+3 with my second baby and have a anterior placenta.
She is moving constantly unless I'm walking around and busy.
You can see my belly moving all the other place through my clothes . Some of her movements are pretty uncomfortable all ready.

I do not remember my first daughter having such strength/moving as much. Granted she is 5 so I have forgotten a lot as well.

ILoveStickers · 21/03/2021 11:10

Mine was like this, and she was an incredibly alert newborn, seemed so motivated to learn how to crawl/walk/run. Now 18 months and basically hasn't stopped moving the whole time Grin

She's a moderate to good sleeper, but she moves constantly in her sleep too. Even as a newborn we'd find her at the other end of the crib because shed wriggled her way there. The other NCT mum's thought I was kidding!

pursuedbyablackdog · 21/03/2021 11:35

Good luck opGrin
Dd was constantly on the go in utro never slept as a baby and was on the move constantly as a toddler😂. She's now the most slovenly tween, and needs crowbaring out of bed most daysShockGrin

AyyX · 21/03/2021 13:50

Oooh hi, I’m 33 weeks pregnant too Grin.
My first pregnancy she wasn’t very active but she’s almost 16months now and so much more active than I thought she would be when I was pregnant with her!
When I was pregnant with her I thought she was very lazy and slept a lot 😂
Definitely was comfortable inside because she came 11 days late 😅

Dyra · 21/03/2021 14:54

Yup. I never once worried about movements with her. If she ever seemed a little quiet, all I had to do was poke the bump to provoke a flurry of foetal Kung Fu. As a newborn she especially loved kicking her legs. Even now, at 18 months, it's her favourite thing to do during nappy/clothes changes. When she's not rolling over and running away from me that is...
