Menstrual like cramps

Hi everyone,

I just found out that I'm 4-5 weeks pregnant and it's the first time I have been pregnant so I think I'm suffering a bit of first time anxiety.

I keep getting cramps throughout the day. It's not painful but just feels like that feeling you get when you're about to start your period. Is this normal? X

Congratulations. Completely normal. I had this for a few weeks, it'll be the uterus stretching and baby burrowing deeper. X

Hiya!
Totally normal, I like to think it’s little bean burrowing itself into mummy’s nest.
Around 6/7 weeks, I woke up around 4am with the worst cramp of all, and it was just before I had a scan at the EPU, and I got to see baby’s heart beat!
All the best x

Thank you for the advice! I'll try to stop worrying so much about every little thing unless it gets painful x

@bages1977 I have this too lovely. Nearly 6 weeks and they’ve been pretty much daily but no bleeding? As time goes on I am relaxing a little bit as I’m hearing their quite normal :)

I’ve also been getting sharper pains whenever I’m turning or stretching over something so I rang the midwife and she said this is also perfectly normal - just thought I’d share it :) xxx

Thanks for the info! Yeah I feel a bit like it's tugging a bit when I turn over in bed for example. Good to know ☺️

I've not had any bleeding either or anything else to cause concern so I guess I'll just try and relax a bit. I only found out a couple of days ago so I think I'm still in panic mode 😂

Thanks girls x

Totally normal, but unfortunately noone tells you this before you're pregnant (because so much of the early days are secret).

I was furious with every person I'd ever known who was pregnant before me and hadn't told me.

My first pregnancy felt EXACTLY like I was going to start my period any minute. Never did though. And all 3 pregnancies I've had cramps all the way through but never had a problem (23 weeks with number 3).

The best thing someone told me is the uterus is a muscle, so the only response it has to anything (i.e. baby growing, moving, nesting) is to contract!

Good luck! I know its a worrying time but try to enjoy it!!!

Yeah I know what you mean. And I've tried Googling stuff but it just comes up with all sorts that you never know what to believe!

It's great that on here you can get opinions from loads of people who have been through the same. Thanks again guys ☺️ x

I too am SO anxious about this as it's my first pregnancy too! Yesterday the pain was so bad I was a mess thinking the worst, today it's gone again 🤷🏼‍♀️ such a mind game! I'm 6+5 today. I think hearing that it's normal and just the bean getting comfy and everything stretching helps x

bages1977 · 20/03/2021 12:36

Yeah I can relate so much. Had horrible cramps last night but I think I'm overthinking it. Feel fine this morning. And yes hearing that it is normal is a relief. Called the midwife on Friday to book my appointment and just waiting to hear back from them so no doubt I'll be bombarding the midwife with questions about what is normal 😂 x

I had terrible cramps at around 7/8 weeks, I was convinced I was going to lose the baby. Ended up having a scan a week later and all was well Smile hope it’s the same for you OP, don’t worry, cramping is very much normal

bages1977 · 22/03/2021 08:48

Sorry, busy weekend! Thanks for the support. Touch wood, the cramps seem to be easing a bit now and you guys have all been great in helping me relax and try not to over think it.

I think I'll always be worried until I've had the first scan though but the key is staying happy and healthy! So just going to try and stay positive and let my body do it's thing ☺️ xx

Hi I've got this too, I started a thread about it last week. I'm currently 5.5weeks and it started at about 4.5 weeks. At points it's been really bad like doubled over rocking and then it passes again like a period cramp/contraction!

I spoke to the doctor and they weren't concerned as long as it's not one sided all the time, and I haven't had any bleeding so I'm started to worry a little less about it. I had the last couple of days without much of it and it's come back on again this morning.

Seems there are a few with it so maybe it's normal (ish!)

Amz6219 · 22/03/2021 10:15

Totally normal :)

I find it helpful if you think of it as your uterus stretching rather than anything negative. And I get the pulling in bed too - think it is round ligament pain, you can get it super early as everything starts relaxing and stretching straight away. Blame the hormones! :) x

bages1977 · 22/03/2021 11:11

It's really encouraging to know other people have felt this too. @lamby12 mine seems to come and go in waves too but I've not felt it since yesterday afternoon so hopefully it is passing.

Mine also is not on just one side and there's been no bleeding so hopefully everything is fine. Still waiting for a call from the midwife to book my appointments. Will call again later today if I don't hear anything.

I had a provoked DVT in December/January from a small operation but it's all cleared up now but would ideally like to speak to the midwife soon about that. I also have O- blood so will have to discuss that too. Think I will feel less anxious once I've heard about that.

Thanks again for the advice everyone ☺️ x
