Being pregnant on medication

Hi all,

First time posting on here, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on being pregnant whilst taking mirtazipine for depression and amitryptaline for my fibromyalgia. I voiced my concerns to my dr about the potential effects on the baby and if I was to come off the meds, how I would cope without them. I'm not actually pregnant yet but I aim to start trying in a couple of months. The dr didn't really say either way that i should/shouldn't come off the meds, it was a bit of a vague response.

Any advice welcome! Please go gentle on me!

I work in a pharmacy and have had this query a couple times from pregnant mums. Not to panic but most medications are not tested enough or cannot be said wether they are one hundred percent safe taking because simply enough, every one is different and every pregnancy is different. In more lighter news, these tablets are what your body is used to and to come off them completely can be worse in the long run for your baby as depression can be a huge factor in pregnancy and if you are already diagnosed, it may make you feel even worse. This won't be healthy for baby. There may be some alternative antidepressants to transfer to for the time being whilst being pregnant that have been significantly more safer than the ones you are currently taking. They may not do as good of a job as the ones you are taking now, but they are there and it's something to help you out and not have you come off them completely. Have you spoken to your midwife about your medications and what they recommend? I'm sure they have plenty of people ask them what they should be doing about their medications as it's in their expertise with it being their job role? I would speak to a midwife but I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. A happy mum is a happy baby.
