have been sucked into the marketing ploy and have bought some of this bio-oil in the hope it will stop stretch marks.(only got a few small ones with ds) has anyone else used it and found it worked????

no it doesn't. it depends on your skin and genetics if you get them or not. i religiously bio oiled (sucked into the marketing sadly) and still got marks. who knows, maybe they would have been worse if i hadn't bio oiled.

Jojay · 07/11/2007 18:23

No

PillockOfTheCommunity · 07/11/2007 18:23

not anymore than moisturising in general does, no, but it won't do any harm so you may as well use it now you have it!

NAB3littlemonkeys · 07/11/2007 18:25

I used the cocoa butter moisturiser, the stretch mark one, in all 3 of my pregnancies and I do think it helped. I put 3-4 stone on so was definitely stretched!

Maveta · 07/11/2007 18:28

impossible to say. I used it and didn´t get a single mark but then maybe I wouldn´t have anyway.. and will I be brave enough next time to not use it and find out? No way

Monkeytrousers · 07/11/2007 18:31

Eating lots of protein helps apparently - I ate lots of cheese

blousy · 07/11/2007 18:34

Bio-oil is lovely on your skin, but I don't know if it stops stretch marks. I rubbed my bumps daily with the Clarins body oil. It felt gorgeous and I didn't get any stretch marks despite ds1 being a whopper.
Neither of my sisters rubbed anything into their tums and they both got bad stretch marks. Presumably we've got similar skin/genetics, so maybe using oils does help - can't do any harm!

Monkeytrousers · 07/11/2007 22:21

I used baby oil, oh and lots of cheese. No stretch marks either.

This isn't helping I know.

Is it expensive?

PuppyDogEyes · 07/11/2007 22:38

I've been using it too. hasn't sopped them. maybe it will help heal them and prevent scarring if you continue to use after the baby out.

its helped reduce the scarring of recent insect bites i've had. but they're not disapeared all together.

beller · 08/11/2007 09:38

I have been using it...33 weeks pregnant now,and none yet (please dont say i have spoken too soon!)

Have just ordered sme more..will contnue and see!

Good luck xx

dressedup2goandseefireworks · 08/11/2007 09:41

no i bought three bottles and my stomach is ruined

wayneta · 08/11/2007 09:42

If your gonna get them your gonna get them there is nothing you can do however some people have more flexible skin and don't.
I used palmers coco butter lotion when pregnant and I didn't get any which was strange as I put on nearly 4 stone and I had previous ones from just normal growing and yo yo dieting when I was younger. My sister used palmers too and is covered in them although she wont admit it

dejags · 08/11/2007 09:46

NO

capecodder · 08/11/2007 09:57

I've used Bio Oil, Clarins & Palmers throughout my pregnancy- and at 38 weeks I don't have any stretch marks (yet) but have a massive bump.

Don't forget to use it after the birth when everything is going back to normal- I've heard that using it then is just as important to get good results.

Lateasusual · 08/11/2007 09:58

I managed to make it up to about 38 weeks with no stretch marks and then all of a sudden all around my belly button is covered in red marks which are now really itchy and driving me mad. What's going on?!!

morocco · 08/11/2007 10:04

no it doesn't and they've had to withdraw their advertising which implied that it did, thanks to me [power mad grin] and the good old asa

RGPargy · 08/11/2007 10:05

Nope, it doesn't help. If you're gonna get stretchmarks, you're gonna get them and there's absolutely sweet F.A. you can do about it! It's all to do with your skin type and skin elasticity.

blondie14 · 08/11/2007 10:49

oh well, it was worth a try. my skin feels really soft though, much better than cream moiturisers. it is a little pricey though. on my bottle it still says it helps with stretch marks, and even in the leaflet it still says it can help prevent them if used once or twice a day!! still false advertising?!

OP posts:
morocco · 08/11/2007 10:51

yep, false and misleading claims, except that's not what they ruled cos bio oil withdrew all their ads before a ruling could be made (ie they had no proof to back it up), it was only last month though so I guess the claim is still on the bottle? but you could always write to the asa to let them know you're unimpressed

AbigailSB · 23/01/2023 19:44

No I started using it from day 1 thinking it would help I'm not a big person I am a big hikers/rock climber and it did nothing I always feel horrible looking at my S marks I hate them I'm even thinking surgery just to feel better about them so nope I feel its an old wife tales if it work for you ngl I'll be a bit jealous haha but I do hope it dose I feel horrible looking at mine

Missp23 · 03/02/2023 22:08

I previously had surgery and asked my surgeon if biooil would help the scar fade. He said that any oil or moisturiser would help as it’s the rubbing motion that helps and increases blood flow. I guess the same could apply to stretch marks but genetics probably plays a part too.
