Hey,
Iv got a urine infection at 20 weeks. On antibiotics. I literally need to pee all the time. Today started with some pains in my vagina. Midwife not concerned. Just looking for some reassurance from anyone else having experienced this?

Just sounds like a normal UTI.
It should start to get better after a couple of days

Hi. I feel your pain. Im 30+5 and so far I've had 6 UTI's. I've had them in all my pregnancies, but luckily once the baby is born I stop getting them.

Absolutely nothing to worry about.

I've had recurrent UTIs throughout my pregnancy with dreadful stomach cramps pretty much the whole time. First detected at booking appointment at 9 weeks. Despite drinking cranberry juice daily and being so careful about hygiene that it got silly, after testing positive 6 times I was sent to a consultant who basically said that it was probably the same infection that hadn't properly cleared. I'd never had a UTI before so I had no idea what was happening. I honestly thought it was a miscarriage, early labour - anything you can think of I was imagining the worst and because I'd had antibiotics no-one thought it would be a UTI. It was that painful I was curled up on the floor a few times. I've been sent for a kidney ultrasound to check no underlying issues (there aren't) and now on low dose antibiotics for the rest of my pregnancy. That's only because I've tested positive so many times though - you wouldn't need this after one instance. I finally got a clear urine sample at 34 weeks (that was an exciting day I tell you)! and am finding the final weeks of my pregnancy easily the most comfortable of the whole thing so there's a silver lining!

My experience probably isn't that standard but even so no-one seems particularly worried about it with no huge concern about the impact on me or baby (who is fine and merrily wriggling away). They did take me very seriously when I've had any watery discharge as having a UTI in 1st trimester has a slight increased risk of waters breaking early but by 2nd trimester you should be fine. Having a UTI is completely routine and, in case you are wondering, unlikely to be linked to anything you've done/not done (believe me - I asked!). Take your antibiotics (should be at least 7 days) and then if you have any residual symptoms at all I would call your GP and ask if you can do a urine sample to check it's cleared - this is quick and easy for them to do. I found it was faster to do this at GP than wait for a midwife appointment. That was the mistake I made at the beginning - everyone assumes the antibiotics have worked but they never did for me so it took a while to find out what it was and get the treatment I needed. It's easy enough for them to give you another course of antibiotics if you need one.

I've had 2 so far (21+4) both with antibiotics - seems to have cleared for now (touch wood); midwife said it was ok to take cranberry tablets so on one a day at the moment. There's been discussion of a low dose antibiotic for the rest of the pregnancy if I keep getting them so we'll see how we go. I sympathise though - they're no fun.
