hi guys I just wanted to ask a very quick question I wanted to know if weekly ultrasounds are safe for the baby as I am so worried I can't stop getting weekly ultrasounds done but I want to know if it safe for the baby.

You won't hurt baby but it will mess with your head. You'll feel comforted for the 5 mins you have the scan then spend the next week panicking. You need to wean yourself off the idea of needunt constant scans. Pregnancy is really hard. I had two losses before my DS and I dread scans incase there's bad news. Get some support for your mental health through your GP or midwife, that will make you feel better than the constant scanning.

All the money you save on private scans can be used for something lovely for you and the baby too.

There’s no evidence that they do but like PP says I’d be more worried about your mental health.

I think you need it talk to your mw about your anxiety. Like the others have said, it won't really help long term (not to mention costing a fortune) because you'll just find your anxiety increasing earlier and earlier.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/03/2021 09:19

Will you end up having daily ones? You need to talk to your MW.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 17/03/2021 09:32

Do you mean you can’t stop because there’s a medical reason why you have to have them, or you can’t stop because of anxiety and you just pay for them?

saffire · 17/03/2021 09:49

Do you need weekly ultrasounds? Is there a medical reason or have your midwife suggested there is a problem?

If you are so worried that something will go wrong, you need to discuss this anxiety with your gp or midwife. In all honesty there's no need for weekly scans, it's going to mess with your head.

They are unlikely to cause harm.

You should keep them to a minimum though just in case. It is the norm to have u/s quite often in high risk pregnancies.
For you though I think you could do will consulting a Councillor to address the underlying anxiety issues instead of getting unnecessary scans.

@Dhano21 I'm going to go against the grain here and say if it helps you, then go for it. I book a scan every 7-14 days, and it's the only thing that lets me vaguely enjoy this pregnancy. Yes, it does only last a few days, but I wouldn't even get those days if I didn't have the regular scans. I've got my 20 week scan next Thursday, and I'm still going to book another one at the end of this week.

I have thought about speaking to my midwife before, but I know that nothing they can say will reassure me. I need to see he's still alive to feel reassured

I agree with @Daffodil21 do what makes you feel the most safe. If there's no risk to the baby but it makes you feel more relaxed until you can count the kicks from home then do it. I'm a worrier tho, if we could afford it I would be doing it too xx

But I would speak to mw about counselling too, they might have suggestions to help you relax xxx

How are you going to be when the baby is born, are you going to worry about everything little thing they do/don't do. Surely it is better to address the anxiety now.
