Covid Vaccine during pregnancy

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 15/03/2021 21:26

I’m 35weeks and been sent a text for the vaccine... should I have it now or after the baby?
So unsure after the doctors surgery & midwife said I shouldn’t have it during pregnancy then another midwife said I should... anyone else had it during pregnancy? Side effects?
Thanks

Are you considered high risk? You should discuss the risks and the benefits with your midwife/GP, but ultimately the decision is your. This link might help:

Yep, if you are high risk then you should get it, but if you are just not then they recommend waiting till after!

whymewhyme · 15/03/2021 21:37

I wouldn't have it at this late stage, just wait till babys born

SnooperTrooper12345 · 15/03/2021 21:38

I got mine sent to me but midwife said if I'm not in a high risk place, which I'm home mostly as I'm on mat leave then to wait until after as I've only got a few weeks left

I’m high risk, although I had Covid Jan 21. I’m in two minds seens ive been told different by different health professionals.
Asthmatic, high BMI, GD

I’m high BMI and I am planning on getting it but given that you only have a few weeks left and you have very recently had covid I would say no.
You are expected to have antibodies for 6 months after having covid, plus the vaccine should be administered between 14-33 weeks. After 33 weeks there’s a small chance it can cause preterm birth. I’m very pro vaccine in pregnancy but if I was in your specific circumstance I would wait

HowCanYou · 15/03/2021 22:04

I've started a similar thread in chat today. I've got high bmi, GD and am 31 weeks pregnant. Midwife said it's up to me and they can't advise, I'm going to try and speak to the doctor tomorrow. It's really hard to know what to do for the best

Hopefulbride18 · 15/03/2021 22:34

Hi OP, it's so hard because the doctors can't really advise any further - they don't know much more than what has been published for general information! It's really just about reading that information and doing your own risk assessment unfortunately, no one can tell you yes or no.

I have had the vaccine in pregnancy but my circumstances are very different to yours. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks for replying

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 15/03/2021 22:42

Thank you for the replies ladies. I think it’s just best to maybe wait until after pregnancy, I’m delivering 1st week of April anyway as I have my csection booked. My gut tells me to wait after the baby xx

I did a lot of reading as I'm group 6 and pregnant so expecting a text any minute now. I've satisfied myself that the unknown risk of the vaccine outweighs the risks of covid (I'm a biomedical scientist specialising in immunology so have done a lot of in depth reading on the mechanisms of the vaccines). Plus getting the vaccine before I give birth then means my baby benefits from the antibodies too. However my DH got to book his vaccine today and couldn't get an appointment till late March. If I was going to be giving birth the week after I would probably delay it until just after, so my last days pre-birth were as relaxed and stress-free as possible and not spent dealing with any of the side effects (eg sore arm)

WorriedMummy2021 · 17/03/2021 14:11

I'm also in group 6 and got my text on Monday and i booked in for Saturday but now i am all worried and stressed out that it is a bad idea.
You are going for it? If i wasn't pregnant i wouldn't even think twice but now i'm like no studies on pregnant women and the only article found is the lady who took the vaccine in pregnancy and baby was born with the antibodies

DiabeticFirstBaby · 17/03/2021 14:21

I'm high risk due to diabetes and have been advised that i can now have it while pregnant by my midwife.
I have decided not to have it till the baby is born, i'm working from home and will just be really careful before hand. For me personally, a lot of pregnant women have had the vaccine now and short term seem fine but there's no data of any long term effects for the baby and it's a risk i personally don't want to take. So will be having after birth.

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 17/03/2021 15:47

Worriedmummy I’ve decided not to go for it as I’m delivering at 38 weeks and I’m 35+3 so I think I’ll get it after baby is born. I’m not prepared to take any risks in the last few weeks. I also have Covid in January so I think I will have antibodies for approx 6months.
Good luck with yours lovely
