Cintrauterine Pregnancy

Hi me and partner attended hospital today for 12 week maternal scan and to be honest the appointment was pretty quick and the information was fairly vague and not so informative.

We managed to see a heartbeat but couldn't hear it. We was told the bpm was around 158 and that everything seemed normal. On our paperwork it states intrauterine pregnancy which was not mentioned and from reading online I am unable to make any sense of the word.

I appreciate you are unable to see our data but we just want to know our babys safe and healthy any help is appreciated thank you Sam

....it means the pregnancy is in the uterus. Where it's supposed to be. That's all.

Isadora2007 · 15/03/2021 16:42

It means normal. Don’t worry.

Intrauterine just means inside the uterus. I.e. a normal pregnancy. Nothing to worry about.

In any case, you don't need to scan your notes for issues. If there is anything whatsoever to be concerned about, the medical staff will tell you.

Intrauterine means ‘in the uterus’ I.e where it needs to be!

Oodilallygolly · 15/03/2021 18:47

Not to sound harsh but perhaps it’s best not to read your scan notes in future if it’s going to cause anxiety for you and lead to endless googling over something which actually just means everything is as it should be.
The medical staff will tell you if there’s something wrong.

Sorry about my ignorance and thank you for clarifying. First pregnancy and the scan experience wasn’t great. Thank you for letting me know.

On a 12 week scan you won't get told lots of detail routinely. Depending on the sonographer and the time allocated they will point out the heart so you can see it fluttering away and the limbs. They might tell you the position of the placenta, it will be noted down. Otherwise they are doing their own checks to make sure everything is developing as it should and taking measurements to give you an estimated due date.
