AstraZeneca vaccine at 29 weeks

Hi everyone

I’ve been offered the Covid jab and after speaking to my GP he’s advised I have the vaccine during pregnancy. I can only have the AstraZeneca vaccine and I’ve booked an appointment for next week. I will be 29 weeks pregnant. I’m not looking for advice about whether I should or shouldn’t have the vaccine, but more wondering if anyone else has had this vaccine while pregnant and if everything was ok? The doctor has assured me that there is no risk to the baby or me but I can’t help but feel apprehensive. Thanks in advance 😊

I'm sure there's a thread about this. Might be in the Coronavirus topic

I have just had my vaccine at 21 weeks. Have had minor side effects (sore arm, tiredness for a couple of days). Otherwise OK.

Following. I’m only 5 weeks pg but desperately want the vaccine. I don’t want to spend my pregnancy worrying About catching it. The vaccinated will still be carriers.

Can I ask why your gp has recommended it?

Hi, not pregnant but had the AstraZeneca about a week ago and it made me violently ill ( vomiting) for about 12 hours and sick with flulike symptoms for 48 hours, I am not sure this would have been good if I were pregnant. I am type 1 diabetic and it really messed with my blood sugars. If I were pregnant I’m not sure I would take it. However I suppose it is all about balancing risks.

The use of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been temporarily suspended in Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Netherlands due to an issue with blood clots.

dementedpixie · 15/03/2021 16:21

The link is being studied. Its not necessarily linked to the vaccine

Floopyandtired · 15/03/2021 17:14

Thanks all for the comments, I appreciate it. I don’t believe the link between blood clots and the vaccine is statistically significant at all? Something like 37 cases out of 17million people who’ve received the vaccine. I will also check out the thread on the coronavirus board, thanks.

I'm on the peanut pregnancy app and lots of CEV vulnerable pregnant women in the US particularly seem to have been fine just a sore arm afterwards. There is also a group of pregnant women on Twitter who have had it.

MummyLE · 15/03/2021 18:02

Following as I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and been thinking about whether I'd have the vaccine if offered.

Not related to pregnancy but my sister, dad and MIL have all recently had the Astra jab and have had high temps and diarrhoea so I think I'd personally feel better about the Pfizer.

Floopyandtired · 15/03/2021 18:08

Thanks @flittingaboutagain that’s really reassuring.

Hi @MummyLE my doctor said they’re not offering Pfizer to pregnant people at the minute, I’m not sure why.

I should have been more clear I think the USA ladies have had a different vaccine but still fine yep.

I had it on Friday at 20 weeks. Felt a bit hot (but not running a fever), very tired and headachy on Saturday enough to be on the sofa. Felt much better Sunday and now I just have a sore arm.
Those symptoms are completely normal for people in their 20s and 30s apparently as your immune system is kicking in.

I had to get permission from my consultant but she was happy for me to have it. I have a high bmi and work in a school so I felt after reading a lot of different things about it that for me the benefits outweighed any potential risks.
