Hoping someone who has been through similar can offer some advice. I'm 11 weeks pregnant with number 2 and since about 5 weeks I have had pretty bad nausea. If I'm hungry I feel sick, after I eat I feel sick and after lunch it doesn't seem to matter what I eat I feel awful. This continues until til I get into bed. Most of the time I have to stay still as any movement makes me feel worse, its like being on a boat in rough seas. Not ideal when I work full time in quite a busy job.
I've been spotting since 4 weeks due to a hematoma so thats probably not helping matters. Would a Dr be willing to give me something? I feel silly because I haven't actually vomited but it is relentless and really starting to get me down. Oh and I had nausea with my first until 22 weeks so don't have much faith this will ease in a week or 2. Thank you!

Yes, you can ask for cyclizine. Problem is it can make you drowsy so depends how much it affects you.

firstpregnancy1 · 12/03/2021 20:53

Yes I had really bad nausea but not a lot of vomiting. Dr prescribed something I can't remember what, didn't help though! I think I was prescribed something else after, again didn't work. I tried the pressure bands, everything. Only thing that worked slightly was eating ice lollies!

Ummm21 · 12/03/2021 21:02

@NuclearDH thanks for the info. I can't imagine being anymore tired than I currently am would be much fun but might be worth a try.

@firstpregnancy1 I've seen a few comments with people saying the stuff doesn't work which is disappointing. Ice lollies and sorbet are definitely helping. Thank you x

I think you could definitely give it a go, but for me personally, tablets never stopped nausea they just stopped the actual vomiting. I tried ondanestron, cyclizine, metaclopromide and prochlorperazine. I had hyperemesis, not just nausea. May be completely different for you!

Thanks @MooreLew

I had crippling nausea when I was pregnant, 24/7 from 6 weeks to 21 weeks. It was absolutely debilitating but medication did help somewhat. I was on Promethazine 3 x a day and although it made me really sleepy to start with, it did wear off and I could function

Ummm21 · 12/03/2021 22:25

@polkadotpixie that's useful to know, thank you. Its just so intense isn't it?

I have HG (again Angry ) and I would deffo try medication. Promethazine did help my nausea when it first started at 5 weeks but only for a week or two. When the vomiting started I had to move on to other things. I have tried most antiemetics now and unfortunately none of them helped me with nausea post 6 weeks, just reduced the frequency of my vomiting. So I am not sure how effective it would be but worth a go. I hated cyclizine though it knocked me out. Promethazine didn't make me drowsy but everyone is different. I've always had that feeling like you're on a boat thing btw too, I don't vomit much if I stay in one place but as soon as I start to move even to go to the bathroom or whatever I start puking after a few mins. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Ummm21 · 12/03/2021 23:15

@MeadowHay oh gosh that sounds awful. I hope it eases for you soon. I will speak to the GP and see what they say. I'm comforted that the sea sickness feeling isn't just me as I'd mentioned it to others but they hadn't experienced it. Im very grateful my husband is happy to do most of the work around here for now too. Best of luck!

I don't think its silly at all - if you need something to help you work then go for it. Sometimes throwing up used to be a relief from the nausea so I can totally sympathise that you never have a break from it.

Ummm21 · 13/03/2021 07:36

@Helenknowsbest thank you.

@Ummm21 I had prochlorperazine prescribed in hospital, it didn't really work as my nausea was very bad. Then GP prescribed Cariban and I took 2-3 tablets at once and it worked. Only thing is it makes you very drowsy and you need to sleep. I'm 29 weeks pregnant and back to prochlorperazine as the nausea is back but not bad enough for Cariban. So uncomfortable and this is my third pregnancy and I've never had it in the previous two. Have you tried anti sickness bands?

Ummm21 · 13/03/2021 08:12

@Mishmased I haven't tried the bands, have you found them helpful? I'd definitely give them a go if there was a chance they'd help.

I’ve been on cyclizine for a week now and it has massively reduced my nausea. I was nauseous 24/7 from 6 weeks, which progressed to constant vomiting. The cyclizine made me really drowsy for 2 days but doesn’t any more. I’m still sick in the evenings but the nausea relief has been INCREDIBLE. It’s worth trying it!

Changeismyname · 13/03/2021 08:46

I didn’t have nausea as consistent as you describe but sparkling water really helped to settle mine

Ummm21 · 13/03/2021 09:04

@Littletoaster2021 great to hear from someone who found it helpful, thank you.

@Changeismyname thank you. Cold fizzy drinks do help, as do ice lollies.

@Ummm21 I haven't tried them but people rave about them. I found the meds helped me especially Cariban. I find sipping water with ice helps. Hope you find a solution soon.

willitgetworse · 13/03/2021 11:01

Yes of course you can try anti sickness, but if they don't work you must ask to try another until you find the right one for you. It took me three tries until I found the right one for me.
Nausea is the pits, and I have much sympathy for anyone suffering, it probably doesn't feel like it now but it will get better.
The only thing that helped me, same as PP was eating ice lollies by the bucket load.
Good luck

Ummm21 · 13/03/2021 14:21

@willitgetworse thank you. Its definitely different to last time as it wasn't as intense but lasted until 22 weeks so the thought if this for another 11 weeks is pretty unbearable. I will speak to the doc. You've all reassured me that I'm not being a wuss asking for something x
